What I learned in 2017:

The best things in life aren't things. They're people.

My cat plays "the floor is lava" way better than I ever will.

I don't own anything. I only borrow it while I'm here.

You would expect getting fucked and being fucked to be the same thing but, they aren't.

Listening and hearing aren't the same thing.

I'm not lonely just because I'm alone. I'm good with it.

There are a lot of really miserable people on the Internet and, if you allow it, they'll make you miserable too.

It's okay to slowly develop a crush on someone and never tell them. That way, neither one of you can ruin it.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity but, being happy doing it is perfectly sane.

I am frequently wrong and it's okay to admit it.

If I put my socks on inside out, I'm not wearing them. The rest of the world is wearing my socks.

I am not unique. I'm exactly like the rest of you, only different.

"Me too" is the saddest phrase I've ever heard.

Life is good. Life sucks. People are born. People laugh. People cry. People die. Life is good. Life sucks. Life is life. Just roll with it.

Let's see what 2018 will teach us... Happy New Year!

I am enough!!!!
All I can do is to take care of myself!!!!!
There is nothing, absolutely nothing I can do if ONE do not want to be with me.
I Love my company.
This is not loneliness....it is freedom!
it is nor over yet.......

I learned that humans are much more resilient than we think. As the great Winnie the Pooh once said, "Promise me you'll always remember: you're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."

Simple pleasures in life matter. Take time to bend over and smell the flowers more. What mattered a year ago, doesn't matter so much now. Music still makes my heart sing. Use up some of those "saving for a rainy day" things because that rainy day is drawing closer. Play more.

What I learned so far in 57 years!
Arguing does teach
Complaining does not solve.
Revolt does not help.
Despair does not light.
Sadness leads to nothing.
Tear does not replace sweat.
Slander always responds with the worst.
For all ills, there is only one drug of proven efficiency.
Continue in peace, understanding, helping, awaiting the wise contest of Time, in the certainty that what is not good for others will not be good for us ...
Injured people hurt people.
Healed people heal people.
Loved people love people.
A beautiful day is not always a sunny day ...
But it sure is a day of Peace.

i am a slow learner I think because I seem to get something under my belt about relationships and then I lose it . relationships confound me . This last year I was twice attacked by a man who lives in the same sheltered accommodation as me. My H.A. seems to have it down as six of one an half a dozen of the other even though the police gave him a community order - So I have learned that I have to make my own sense of 'justice' an dI havent learned how.Yet!

I agree with what @evestrat said. I hope you are safe.

@IndySent I think I love you. swoon

  • Every time I think this life thing is way too long... Life with a death reminds me how wrong I am.
  • That keeping a stable of Plan B's never solve the issue of Plan A.
  • I am so much in love with the female thing that it makes me happy.
  • I still can write. But need to work in my music with obsession at a feverish pace.
  • I need to make a video with instructions relieving all my loved ones of any mourning. I want them all to find happiness when I am gone.
  • all my porn should be in one place, my brother in love left his porn hidden in different places and still being found, no surprises like the .45 automatic in a leather coat either.
  • My next soul mate match is out there for me to meet.
  • That I should accept with grace my good health and approach to life understanding that many will like at least 5 more minutes in this Place. In other words I am going to live My Life My Way in Joy and Happiness. Under Management of My Man in the Mirror.
  • The Witness to My Life Will Not Be a Burden To My Soul.
  • I Will Dance a Little More and Be Serious a Little Less.
  • I Will Continue Being Hector... just as I was Yesterday. Wiser, but Free and Light as a Feather.

I haven't learned much . . . except that I have a lot to learn. Good list, Duke!

What I learned this year is even though I called myself a non-practicing Christian from the age of 13 what I had really done was take my first step into agnosticism. I had already discarded the bible stories as nothing but fantasy and rejected all organized religions as businesses with the agenda to control, manipulate, and dominate.

I've learned since joining this site that I'm Agnostic-Atheist and the people here are intelligent, informative, and open-minded as well as welcoming.

I'm looking forward to the new year with anticipation and I thank you all for making this site a wonderful place to spend time and energy in. Happy New Year. 🙂

Wonderful; thank you for sharing; and welcome to reality.

@BobFenner

Thank you. I'm glad we're never too old to learn. 🙂

I learned that letting go of someone allows something new to come into your life. By letting go of other things I'm much happier letting things just happen.

Live one day at a time

Do the best you can

Don't make promises you can't keep.

The world does not revolve around me.

Sharing is caring.

Life is fleeting - enjoy it.

Do things happen for a reason? Still pondering?

Prioritize-don't sweat the small stuff.

If things happen for a reason, that reason is Physics.

"Life is" is something I used to tell my kids. And my other is "People are".

If I had a nickle for every time I've been wrong, I might be able to retire next week. I always own it. I'm wrong, big deal, I'm human and therefore fallible.

And cats... they're the most wonderful and vexing of all pets, I will never voluntarily live without one.

I'm frequently alone but rarely lonely.

And tomorrow we're going to wake up and relearn the same lessons and move forward because that is what we do.

Good post!
