You read any Stephen Baxter? Excellently constructed hard sci-fi of the first order, written by a chap with a PhD in mathematics and a degree in engineering.

Vacuum Diagrams was my starting point, and I recommend it.

If you're into the fantastic, might I recommend the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks? You can get the omnibus or the three books separately: Way of the Shadows, Shadows Edge and Beyond the Shadows. This series has war, underhanded politics, a coup, assassinations, murder, action and that's just in the first book.

Madeline l'engle. a wrinkle in time. I'm not a reader and I read this book when I was a kid and liked it. not sure I'd like it now but it was good then. now I like historical stuff.

The novelization of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is surprisingly good.

For urban fantasy I'd recommend the Felix Faust books by Craig Schaefer, the Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka, the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and the Nightside series by Simon R. Green.

For sci-fi I'd recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, Infinite by Jeremy Robinson, Armada by Ernest Cline, 14 by Peter Cline, Time Salvager by Wesley Chu, and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.

For an oldie I like Fred Sabrhagen - Berserker Prime and the other Berserker books. For something newer I like Dennis Taylor - the Bobiverse books.

Have you ever tried "Asimov Science Fiction" magazine? There's a lot of good reading in it, and it's not too expensive.

Raymond E Feist is awesome, the Riftwar Saga goes on and on, I have 30 books in the series. Janny Wurtz co-wrote 3 of them and her series of books Wars of Lights and Shadow are brilliant, but slow to come out. You probably have these and more, any authors you may have considered but not tried yet others may provide input? Brandon Sanderson is worth checking out as well.

I like the old classic short stories:. The Hugo Winners, Dangerous Visions, etc. From the sixties. I'd go for anthologies for exposure to lots of different authors, then follow the ones you like down their respective rabbitholes.

Piers Anthony is one of my favorite writers of fantasy. The "Incarnations of Immortality" is a fabulous set of books. Any of his "Xanth" novels are great also.
