Can You Name One Politician Outside Of Your Own Party And Make A Positive Comment About This Person.

I would assume that most American Vote as Rebublican, Democrat, Independant, or Green party.

If most people are like myself, I sometimes encounter a candidate from a different party which I find to be a person with an admirable quality.

For me, This person would be John McCain. I think he is a man who is a War Hero and I think he represents what the Republican Party use to be before the Fanatics took over.
John McCain has been known to defy his own party on issues. I find this quality someting to be admired as many in congress are followers and not leaders within their own party.

Do you have a Politician from a different party you could offer a complement about?

I am Labour/Socialist- I don't know how that compares with your U.S. system we also have the Green Party so I would nominate Caroline Lucas as my -'other' party member because she is doing a fine job

John McCain is a true American hero even tho he bombed babies from the air. His policies are a different story & I could never endorse him in that regard. As I do not have a political party I would take it as a challenge to say something nice about The Donald. He "....loves the poorly educated". Or so he says. But then we know about his inability to be a man of his word. John Kasich isn't fearful of The Donald. So I suppose one could say he has courage. Senator Cory Gardner supports cannabis decriminalization. That is a good thing since there is little room left in our prisons. Howard Stern ran as a Libertarian candidate for Governor of NY. The only negative thing I can find about him is that he is incendiary.

@twshield Hello! I acknowledged his heroism in my first sentence. He still killed babies that he never saw.

As a lifelong Labour supporter, I have a lot of respect for Caroline Lucas (Green Party) and Vince Cable (Liberal Democrats), and some for Michael Heseltine and Heidi Allen (both Conservatives).

Not sure if dead politicians count, but Ronald Reagan has a cool son.

Jeff Flake from Arizona has tried to stand up and push back.

I think that John McCain is pretty reasonable, except on foreign policy

Here are several...

Richard Nixon did sign the loegistlation to start the Evironmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Agraham Lincoln did free the slaves (although at the time the republicans were the "liberal" party).

Eisenhower oversaw the creation of the National Highway system.

Theodore Roosevelt started the national parks system.

John McCain didn't dodge the draft claiming "bone spurs" like Trump did.

@twshield That slipped my mind. It's been a while since I read "The Jungle" by Upton Cinclair, and it was in the introduction to that book that I first learned about that. Thanks for reminging me.

John McCaiin did vote for the terrible "tax reform" bill the GOPers pushed through

0

Yes and that is a great question, I was a staunch democrat until I listened to John Kaisch more and compared him to Trump, Well of course any thing would be better than the Trumpet but I saw a real sincere compassion for the people. In addition to all I saw, I believe a number of decent republicans finally woke up and said holy shit

I am thinking that if you made this into a poll with six or eight choices, John McCain would win in a landslide. I cannot think of anyone else in the Republican party who is more worthy of respect.

That's easy. I'm still a registered Democrat and Bernie Sanders is an Independent. I can go on all day about things I like about him. Otherwise, John Kasich was the nicest and most personable of the GOP clown car in their POTUS primaries. Didn't seem his policies necssarly alligned with that though.

@twshield he's just the right amount of socialist for me 🙂. Give it a few more years of Citizen United allowing corporations and Wall Street to chisel away at our democracy, and you never know, you might start feeling that Bern.

@twshield But a hell of a lot more could be. Free universal health care and free university tuition both radically improved Australia. The neo-con inspired move away from these ideals is part of our gradual impoverishment.

@twshield I'm not an economist, and they might differ some on the numbers, but he did lay out detailed plans for how he would pay for his programs. Is it getting warm in here?...I think the Bern is coming

@twshield Which is the real problem. "Conservatives" (they're not really) all over the world are resisting these things. The deep irony being that these things strengthen capitalism (Berny is NOT a socialist). But we said the same thing when Menzies was in power. No one would let these radical socialist notions pass. Then along came Gough Whitlam and suddenly all those things came to pass. Not without cost. Gerald Ford boasted of how he got rid of our democratically elected, pro USA Prime Minister because he was too socialist. But that moment set this country up for its current prosperity. At the time we were more conservative than the USA is now. It is doable, just because it's hard is no argument against those who are trying for it.

@twshield Going by the crime statistics from the ABS, your friends are wrong. Not only in per capita numbers, but also in absolute numbers. In other words our crime rates have been dropping as our population has increased. There is an apparent correlation between this drop and the removal of lead from petrol but I don't know if this is the actual cause (or one of them at least.) There are significant scare campaigns from the usual suspects (generally our conservatives) to try to make us believe otherwise for some fairly dodgy political purposes.

@twshield Even in Melbourne (I lived in Braybrook before it gentrified) the crime rates are dropping. There's a law and order scare campaign being run there at the moment by one of our most determinedly racist politicians, coincidentally the minister for immigration. No prizes for guessing who's being targeted as the perpetrators.

I’ve always said, the one thing I hate about Democrats is that they force me to vote for Republicans. But this new Conservative party, abandoning science, attacking reality, handing our country over to the upper wealthy at the expense of the rest of us... this is a different Republican Party than the one I grew up on.

1

Gary Johnson, he wants to legalize pot.

Same for me on John McCain

6

It's funny. When I read the title of your post, McCain was the first one to pop into my head. Too bad about that idiotic Palin gimmick he tried when he was running for President.

1

John McCain was my choice too. He has kehones-not sure of spelling.

thanks.

I had to think for a few minutes, but, yes I can.
I'm a registered Independent.
Senator Susan Collins 🌈 of Maine, is consistently working in a bi-partisan
way to get things done for the American people. She is NOT perfect, and has
gone along with some things I am vehently against. However, by and large, she
has put the interests of the people of Maine, and this country, ahead of partisan
politics.
