Do you enjoy your work? Despite the unfortunate phrase "going postal," I've heard some positive sentiments from people who work for the USPS. And the benefits seem pretty good.

For my 9-to-5, I'm a web developer and digital project manager for a regional news/media corporation (several newspapers and a few magazines, most with websites, and other third-party services and integrations). It's not as much fun as it sounds. Most of my time is wasted dealing with asinine advertising requests/demands, or dealing with incompetent vendors or incompetent senior managers.

I also do some work on the side for web development, graphic design, logo design and branding, and promotional writing.

@snifflz For web development, it's simultaneously easy and complicated. If I were just starting out, I'd begin by learning basic HTML and CSS. That way you can do everything while learning on your computer (all you need is a free code editor or IDE and your web browser). HTML and CSS are pretty easy in general, without a lot of complexity, though there are some advanced techniques you'll eventually learn, but at first keep to the basics and have fun with it. HTML is what you use for basic structure and organization of your page content, and CSS is for giving your content style and better page structure. Once you have a grasp of HTML and CSS, I'd learn some basic JavaScript for interactive elements (this is programming, though, so may take more effort to learn deeply). I think that will keep you busy for a while, but most of that can be done right on your computer without a hosting account or external libraries or anything. As you master those skills, though, you'll want web hosting, and you'll want to learn jQuery and other third-party libraries that extend or make easier what you can do with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and at some point you'll want to learn server-side scripting (PHP or Ruby on Rails are popular) with database interactions (e.g., MySQL or SQL Server).

I deliver auto parts for a large corporation in America. We all have to eat so I am the daily lunch time relief. The job is great for me coz I love to drive and for over 20 years I drove from one house to another doing in-home appliance repair.

I bet you run into some tough-luck cases, BillF.

Run unto lots of them and get to help some, others have been beaten down so much and for so long they are afraid of help. Sad state of affairs and some preachers still want their ten percent fro a person working 26 hours every two weeks and getting 8.25 an hour!

I'm a state worker for a large department in Calif. State Gov't. I work in an analyst job classification. I also own an online business selling watches, sunglasses and some other misc. items. I'm father to a teenager who is nutty about musical theater so I'm also a "volunteer" in the program she participates in and have learned a bit about what it takes to put on a broadway-style production.

Very cool!!

Hi! I work as a web designer. I've been working in the industry for about 10 years now. I've worked for a variety of companies, both big and small. I currently work for a small design studio specializing in creating websites for small businesses. I love my job because it allows me to be creative and work with various clients. My biggest dream is to be employed at this web design firm (https://www.weareframework.co.uk/services/design/web-design/). However, I'm slightly afraid of showing poor performance and being rejected. What do you think? Shall I give it a try? Any input would be highly appreciated!
