Just got bombarded by three born again Christians. They were just so certain that they needed to pray with me because my heart was broken, Ilive in pain, and (what else did they say..) oh Jesus is the one truth in life so I was lost.

I told her she was so off the mark that her connection must be broken. She handed me a pamphlet so I handed her one right back from the Freedom from Religion Foundation lol

We spoke in length about misogyny and how much god loved his son. So much so that women were raped and stoned to death and god's gift to the world was a suicide mission.

Unfortunately she handed back my pamphlet saying she wasn't going to read it..oh the blind sheeple!!

Good for you. You let her know what you believed in and she was wasting her time.

Well played! No surprise they don't care to learn about anything that challenges their delusion.

I feel ya. Two Jehovah's Witnesses just knocked on my door yesterday handing me a pamplet for their Easter celebration. I was respectful and said thank you. Didn't say anything about my secularism, although damn, I did really want to. They could probably tell I was uncomfortable as I'm autistic, and that makes it extremely hard to hide when I'm feeling uncomfortable. Unfortunately I don't have the guts that you have. I did feel bad for them, though. They probably don't even know any of the nasty stuff that's in their holy book and are brainwashed to the core.

It's taken me a while. In the past I would have let them pray for me, and I started out nice and peaceful but they kept pushing so I stood my ground.

Yep. That's why we have to fight. If people just kept their superstitious nonsense to themselves and didn't bother anyone else, then that would be one thing. Unfortunately, the tenets of their faith tell them to proselytize.

I haven't had any of those for years... knock on wood...
But my front doormat does say "Go Away" true..
Lol

I usually take the pamphlet & retort with "Thanks for the kindling". I can then hear them say "What is 'kindling' ?"

Lol

A friend of mine has an interesting way of ensuring that they never get past the initial introductions and niceties. When they ask to come in and talk about their beliefs, he responds by saying, "By all means, you're welcome to come in and share your beliefs, but as your host, who happens to be an atheist, I must insist on equal time to share my system of belief with you." To date, after literally dozens of callers, none have taken him up on the offer.

I like your words here and the way you handled it. I suppose god's gift to the world was a suicide mission. At best Jesus had a bad weekend. What was god to do? He could have just changed a rule that he made himself but that was too simple. He had to be born as one of us, being his own son no less, and there had to be shedding of blood. This way, if you believe, you won't die, but first you have to die anyway even if he died for you. Oh, hell, it gets so complicated. At least it gave us a reason for Jesus dying.
This happened to me once this last summer. It was 2 Baptist men and I told them to just sacrifice a goat for me. (That's a Daniel Dennett quote.) One of the men informed me that doesn't work anymore. LOL

"At best Jesus had a bad weekend." ROFLMFAO! I am going to steal this from you, and use it whenever possible ... thank you!

A bad weekend? If this guy didn’t have bad luck, he have had “no luck”, James

Open minds are so refreshing

I used to do the same with the Jehovas Witnesses when they came round to my house. I would give them a copy of The Socialist Standard, and told them that I would read theirs if you would read mine...we actually became quite good friends, and I was almost sad when I heard that one of them had dropped out of being a JW...
My opening line to them was always:
"Sorry, I'm in the Witness Protection Program"...actually got a laugh from them the first time!

I don't know if this is allowed, but can I just say I would have told her to fuck off. Only because i can't tolerate idiots. I've actually opened the door on adventists, gave the devel horns sign and said"hail satan, brother's!" You should have seen they're faces. Then I just shut the door.

Lol!

Dave there is no need to be rude to these people. The simple and very “green” way out of this is for one to keep a couple of crosses in the garden and stick these guys up on them. Don’t get excited and put a match to them to quickly. Wait until it’s dark, switch off the outside lighting, thus saving energy, then switch them on. A very green solution to a pain in the ass problem. James

Did they say they were the father, the son and the holy ghost. Ihope you didnt give them your credit card number. this scam has been going on for two thousands years plus and has year on year proven to be a very profitable one. JAMES

That was her way of evading the cognitive dissonance that believers have to constantly battle.
Ignore or outright deny the truth.

I remember as a child that the neighbors would call around warning folks that they were coming. At first, as an adult, I would tell them no thanks I had my own and shut the door. Then in an especially rabid stage, I would remind them of the no soliciting rule prominently posted at the building's entrance. Now I shut the door at the first religious words. What especially angers me is when they bring children or the obviously mentally or physically challenged along.

Agreed on when they bring the kids or disabled with

Thanks for my morning chuckle! As my earlier generation would say, Right on!

They never read the old testament. The god of the old testament is full of hate, blood lust, misogyny, genocide, mass murder and is anything but peaceful and loving. These people seem to forget that. I usually ask them to use sources other than the bible to prove that jesus ever existed. For all he was supposed to have done, why didn't anybody document anything he did until long after he was dead. This usually sends them away.

Jesus is the reason to unreason.

Don't mess up my beliefs with facts! But, beyond that, most white, evangelical Christians I know don't read. Period. Not even the Bible, since they know nothing about it. And they brag about ignorance, LOL!

"I NEVER watch the news..I read the Bible!"

Well the one consolation for you is that the bible is probably much more accurate than the news, irrespective of which station you watch and we all know what a fairy story that is. Belief is a very good word to start with. When I was a kid I believed in Robin Hood, I watch cowboy films and believed the Injuns were bad and John Wayne was great for killing so many. Look where this got me, Robin Hood running around dressed in green tights (this should have been a fucking clue). The Native Americans were and are lovely people. Now I’m even questioning John Wayne. With his real name being Marion, was he one of these trans gender types that trying to screw up the planet now, because they want it both ways, so to speak? James

Nearly forgot, they will be telling us next that Rock Hudson was gay. James

I'm glad I wasn't there sucking down a coffee -- I'd have snorted it out my nose laughing. Well done lady, well done. Keep up the good fight. When in the suburbs, would have the Mormons and the various evangelical church members knock on the door - I was always nice, and thanked 'em for their time, but "I'm covered already - thank you". Just never felt like an open confrontation even if I was a bit peevish.

It must be quite an experience to live south of the Mason-Dixon line. I'm impressed that you're ready with literature! It would be yellowed and curled up by the time I used it up here in the northeast.

It had just come in the mail a day earlier 😉

2

Isn’t it nice how they expect you to read their crap but won’t even look at your And I don’t understand how any woman would want to be a Christian after reading the Bible.

2

Oh wow...glad you stood up for what you believe in. I hate when they try to force thier beliefs on us but won't open up to what WE believe in or anything else....smh. U GO GIRL!
