Has anyone had made an IRL connection through this forum yet?

I don't even meet up with the people I already know IRL. But, knock on my door and I'll fix you a cup of tea.

I love tea.

Stop in, guys. I have green tea and herbals:

  • Bengal spice (highly recommend)
  • lemon ginger
  • apple cinnamon spice
  • mint medley
  • peppermint
  • yerba mate
  • orange & spice
  • sweet cinnamon spice
  • sleepytime
  • sweet cinnamon spice
  • sweet & spicy (not recommended unless you already know you like it)

And if you want something else, I'm happy to make a tea run. 🙂

I'll be there and bring a variety of mints. I'd like a highly recommended one, please.

a good cup of Yorkshire tea is the best

@silvereyes, I quite enjoy licorice. I've never understood the aversion some people have for the flavor. And I've never had licorice tea, so I'm happy for a new experience. 🙂

Not yet but, their are some great people here so, even if I don't I still think interacting with all of you non-deluded people is a great experience.

"No" sounds so harsh. I needed a "not YET" option.

Duly noted.

When we can edit our own posts, I’ll add it.

Too new, but loving this ~

No, but I'm willing to travel.

It seems as though most members are not close geographically

I’m in a semi small (population 60k) city in Iadaho and discovered one of us in close proximity. So keep hope alive and share this community!

7

Since I live in a large city I guess my chances of being near someone are better than most. I really didn't think about that aspect of it when I joined. I was hoping for an island of reason, rationality and discussion. And no freakin' trolls!

Are you a member of any of the local Atheist / Humanest groups in the local area?

Open to IRL connections, but no need to move fast. We're here because we're scientific thinkers, aren't we? So we're a look-before-you-leap and consider-the-consequences kind of group. As someone else said, the site is in its adolescence. We'll grow up soon enough.

@Kreig I'm with you! Besides we aren't in our teens or twenties anymore and times zipping on by.

I've been there, done that, got burnt. So now I choose to be careful, or careful-er. Don't have time to waste, but I don't have time to waste on the wrong person, either. 😉

Not yet but willing to relocate-maybe I should have put that in my bio lol.

Definitely.

I've not done so yet. Many of my current IRL friends, however, are people I met on another website. Clearly I have no problem meeting people from the web.

This site seems new and rather sparsely populated, which makes meeting in person a little difficult outside of major metropolitan areas. I certainly hope the site grows and many of us meet new and exciting people.

What is IRL?

Why not just write that out? I'm not good with every English saying becoming acronyms. There are way too many. Most of them are made up because people are lazy and don't know how to spell. I'm not mad or anything. But it sounded like some weird online thing only certain people would get. Which it actually is.

Then again, teens all use acronyms. Some are so far out there... I'm 29 and have not been a teenager for 11 years. So I stopped keeping up with teenage pish posh. The only 3 I use are "lol" and "omfg" and "lmfao."

Lol-laughing out loud
Omfg- oh my fucking god or omg
Lmfao-laughing my fucking ass off or lmao

I've been familiar with most of these acronyms for nearly 20 years. In the early days of the internet, I spent many an hour in chat rooms. Most people at the time were poor typists at best, and the acronyms and abbreviations came about in the interest of keeping conversations going. Most of us became proficient typists after a while, and left the acronyms behind.

I’d love to edit the abbreviation, maybe you aren’t aware we can’t edit our own posts yet.

I am not fluent in textese. I always find an x rated meaning then eventually ask some kid the boring thing rated meaning

I edit my posts here.

Lol. Kids say, "I'm dead" or "lit" a lot.

That would be cool though.

In real life.... I had to look it up...lol.

I almost never use abbreviations, lol, brb, lmao, smh....

Thankfully the internet is rife with decoders!

I feel like a creepy pervert messaging women I don't know but damnit I Just have things to say from time to time. Going to someone's page just seems like a violation of privacy. If she is cute I am going violation or not. Is this what Christian guilt feels like ?

But many are here to meet ! You're not creepy by saying hi, or having a discussion. Go for it - could be good !

In my prime you had to go to the one phone in the house dial the number with the family watching. Her Dad would answer. Trying to sound respectful, confident, responsible, well mannered, intelligent and doing your best to keep your voice from cracking. That is like a Tornado siren to a dad. He remembers the raging, out of control, life changing, life controlling hormones. Doesn't matter if he was a good kid (I wasn't. I was his nightmare)

Fairly new. My one attempt was rebuffed, oh well.
Chronically curious people are the most interesting people.

4

that might be nice in the future

3

Great question! Thanks for posting it. I was wondering the same thing though that’s not my main focus here; I like the discussions, but that doesn’t mean I would refuse to date someone I met in a grocery store just because I had gone there looking for guacamole.

Nope, not many locals from Miami. What is this town made of?

3

No, but .... still looking. I'm following a couple of ladies to try to know a little more about them before I reach out. Living in the Bible belt, there aren't many local like-minded folk.

2

Well, since I live in Europe, no great chance on meeting anyone IRL without visiting U.S. ????

So far, no one nearby.

Maybe you need a new country.

I have enjoyed the online discussions debates. Most of the people near my location have been less active. I am open to IRL discussions and socialising, but I would not hold my breath.

1

I didn't join specifically to date, but I'm open to it...There is only one person on the site within 70 miles of me (Binghamton, NY)...I thought there would be at least a few 'locals' here...

1

I'm most curious about... what develops out of these interesting discussions and point systems and bios and profiles.

1

No, I doubt I'll meet any IRL. I'm too quirky. Stuck on my vegan, areligious, and (too) progressive ways. But once settled in New Mexico I will welcome like-minded people to visit, also, for a cup of tea.

Good question, Kreig! Keep following.

My girlfriend was already here when I joined
