What is your favorite musical?
I may be sounding a bit like a broken record by now because I've commented on musicals a few times. My 16YO daughter is big-time into musical theater. She has been doing some form of performing arts since she was around 5. She has been in a local youth community theater company for about the last 5.5 years. This company puts on 2 shows a year and she hasn't missed one since she started. Most recently, she performed in Addams Family (this company only does Broadway shows). A few she has been in include; Alice In Wonderland (her first with them, she landed a speaking role as the March Hare and, in my completely unbiased opinion, stole the show in the Tea Party scene with the Hatter and the Door Mouse), Cats, White Christmas, Music Man, Anything Goes, Little Mermaid (she landed another speaking role here as Sebastian, complete with Jamaican accent. She killed. LOL!), and Shrek was a big one. She's done about a dozen shows. As a volunteer parent, I have had an education in the back end of theater, "volunteering" as a set builder and, mostly, on the lighting team. All of this has given me a real appreciation of musical theater. I can't even watch my kid on-stage without welling up. She is with an exceptional company that produces truly magnificent shows. I say this very sincerely. I have grown to love the kids, many of whom stay, as my daughter has, for many years until they "graduate" from the program. If anyone in the greater Sacramento metro area is interested in checking out a show, it's River City Theatre Company. They operate from Hiram Johnson HS. I can guarantee you will be entertained. Of these shows I've listed, probably Shrek is my favorite from a quality production perspective, but I'll never forget certain moments watching my daughter, such as her tap-dancing in a huge tap number in Act 2 of White Christmas, or every moment on-stage as Sebastian. In Spring, 2019, they are doing Newsies and she hopes to land a lead in that show. Ok, I'm shutting up now. Thanks for reading.
I have a whole Spotify playlist of Broadway tunes lol

I have like 5 Pandora stations just dedicated to musicals
Not big on musicals, so I'm going with... the musical episode of Scrubs. ?
Oh, man, that episode cracks me up every time, especially Dr Cox's patter song.
Streets a Rock opera
Savatage. Great band. Except for Fight For The Rock. That record sucked.
@webbe
Jesus Christ Superstar..............don't have to be a Catholic or Christian or member of any religion to believe that his teaching and outlook on life and people are worthy goals to have as a person.
I love something rotten
@LadyAlyxandrea This and Mel Brooks on writing History of the World best sum up musicals.
I've just started the set build for Shrek, and even as a carpenter I get excited.
I was inoculated against musicals as a child, I'm afraid.
Me too, can't do musicals.
No wait my favorite is into the woods
Mine too!
Fiddler on the Roof is way high up on my list. Along with others already mentioned.
Westside Story, first musical I ever saw and still my all time favorite.
I'm surprised no one has said "Doctor Horrible's Sing a long blog"
Wish they would do a stage version. And Neil Patrick Harris keeps talking about a sequel, but it never seems to happen.
Chicago is one of my all time favorite movies, musical or otherwise!
I love that story, those characters, and of course all that jazz.
My Fair Lady. I saw it at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles years ago. Rex Harrison was always one of my favorite actors and I got to see him in action. I'll never forget it.
Years ago I took my mom to see Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins at the Gershwin Theater on Broadway. It was a great experience.
But it wasn't until I later saw the 1938 film "Pygmalion" starring Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller that I realized that the primary strength of "My Fair Lady" is the play, which I have come to consider the best of the 20th century. Bernard Shaw won the Oscar for best screenplay, making him the only person to win both an Academy Award and the Nobel Prize for Literature.
