He lost me with Fermions and Bosons.

Fermions are matter particles, flour, sugar, and other solid stuff that goes into a cake. Quarks are the force particles. They hold the fermions together so we can have life and molecules. Quarks are the eggs, water, and other liquid that goes into a cake to hold the other solid stuff together. All this has no mass, so we need to put it into an oven, where it can interact with heat (Higgs fields, not heat, just looking at it that way). Thus, one can have a cake. Don't think about it too much; it will make sense sooner.
I am not trying to man splain this, it is just a way of thinking about it, so it makes sense. If you try to understand Quantum Field Theory, you will go nuts.
