I am curious what everyone's background is. I'm a college student who used to work in IT. What is yours?

I currently work in disability claims. I have an associate's degree in Health Information Management. I got the degree when I was in my 50s. Prior to that I was a stay at home mom, ex was military and we moved frequently. Prior to that I was in the military. It is never too late to become what you were meant to be.

@evestrat Five years ago a friend quit being a manager after thirty years and went back to school to be an RN. She is now an RN but in this state, RNs does not make much.

I'm a software engineer and mathematician with over 15 years in the casino gaming industry developing class 2 / class 3 electronic games better known as slot machines. I was the Director of Engineering for both Envision Gaming and Casino Systems Inc.

One of the cool things about the industry is partying with celebrities in Vegas at G2E, the worlds largest casino game expo. I was at Playboys 50th anniversary at the Palms and got to meet Hugh and his bunnies, and I got Drew Carey's and Pamela Anderson's autograph on my G2E badge in 2005.

Wow I feel like the ignorant hick here. I'm a full time farmer ; I've been one for more than 30 years. I have about 2 years of tech school training as a power engineer and a couple of years of university in the study of animal biology. I have worked as a consultant to the government on industry/landowner relations, shallow fracking, coalbed methane development, carbon sequestering and agricultural occupational health and safety. I am an activist for landowner rights, agriculture and social justice and I have run for political office. I am currently an executive member of the Board for the National Farmers Union, NFU/UNF.

no a car needs all its parts to run

@SilverDollarJedi , I don't support Coalbed Methane, fracking or ge-carbon sequestering, I was on those consultation panels as a representative for farmers, agriculture, landowners, ground water concerns and the environment. It is extremely important that our voices be heard even if our success is limited our concerns were made public.
You may have seen some of the photos I have taken on oilspills and fracking blow outs here in Alberta. These photos have effected the decisions of governments all over the world to place a moratorium on fracking although they did little here other than increase public awareness.
I wish I had the letters behind my name many times as it adds creditability to my arguments that have proven to be true time after time in lobbying efforts and public hearings.

@Plainjane , No need to give up on that dream yet. one day you, too could learn to live without money while growing food to feed hundreds of others.

We share the same Bday. 🙂 I'm a professional Classical musician but I perform all styles. I was previously the Principal Oboist of the US Navy Band, Washington DC. Hired as English Horn soloist in '85. I'm also a woodwind/keyboard specialist. (piccolo, flute, oboe, EH, Eb Bb A and bass clarinets, all saxophones, piano #startedAtFouryearsOld, pipe organ) and more.

Love the English Horn. Reminds me of a choral concert I was in and our visiting oboist had a dual case that included her English Horn. I begged her to play something and after much pestering she finally played a lovely passage - - - the room of a few hundred loud people became silent and all were in awe - such a lovely instrument.

Been to college twice. Graduated in 1992 with a B of A in Communications and then again in 2010 with an Associates in Avionics. Not using either degree.

I am currently a garage door repair technician. I have also been a career counselor for people with developmental disabilities as well as other barriers to employment. I've worked for the airlines and I've also been an artisan baker.

Until two years ago I was a pharmacist. But when I left, I left.

No longer on the register, no longer a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society where I served on the English Pharmacy Board for two years. No longer a member of the National Executive Committee of the Pharmacist's Defence Association Union (2 years) nor the chair of one of their Membership Committees (five years).

Now I want some 'me' time.

That said, I met some awesome people for whom I still have the greatest respect.

I'm a mathematician by training, software engineer by desire to actually make money. Now I'm trying to start a new indie game development company, with my first game probably coming out sometime in October.

Wow. I've been told the games market is a red ocean.

@AlexiaJaquet1 Indeed. It's been pretty bad. But I do this for my own needs as much as the market's!

Studied Geology at uni, then did high school teaching. Went on to work for a telco doing broadband support (paid better than teaching, which is ludicrous), then after moving to the UK went back to teaching, then working for a rock, mineral and fossil wholesale company, then librarian, back to a telco, now in training to do safety testing in the nuclear industry.

I'm a college student in Alabama. Im pursuing a degree in physics, hopefully to answer some deep questions religion has failed to answer for me.

Several of my friends graduated with physics degrees including one with his doctorates from Stanford in physics. After he graduated, he started a long career as a computer programmer for many companies using many different computer languages. He noted an earlier colleague that graduated before him uses his doctorates in physics to turn (hand made) wooden bowels. Another who decided not to finish his Dr in Physics as Stanford is now a system's analyst for a major software company - he likely makes in a year more then most in ten years. Like my first friend mentioned, this guy was brilliant. He graduated with a 3.99 GPA with four four-year degrees, Math, Computer, Physics, and (chemistry or German I forgot his last) in under three years. He purchased his farm two years after getting that position. The other friend with his doctorates in Physics occasionally teaches physics but usually is unemployed. A fifth friend with his master's in physics works for a medical instrument company (using radioactive imagery) He was incredibly optimistic about how the great advances discoveries in physics would make our world a better place. He could not believe I had no training (aside from a college class) in physics as I spoke his language and actively contributed to his discussion - - a product of having friends that are bright.

Former aerospace professional; NOT an engineer. I was in HR for most of my career doing Employee/Labor Relations, then went into Training. I retired in 2009. I was with the company that manufactured the F1, and SSME rocket engines which boosted astronauts to the moon, and powered the Space Shuttle, respectively. So, I literally worked with rocket scientists. Unfortunately, nothing rubbed off.

2

I am old. I was a baker, shop assistance, deckhand, laborer, then 20 years in banking and finance, then industry development, then disability employment, network engineering, finally ecology but now teaching kids who cannot fit into normal schools w3hile I ease into retirement.

2

Registered Nursing is what catches my fancy & I am also a retired Air Force RN.

I have a great deal of respect for RN.

2

Sales. It's not really who I am, it's just a way to make money and work less.

2

Salesperson and sports coach

1

I have a associates degree in . I'm currently just a hardware technician. I'm an artist at heart.
