My letter to Silver Singles:
To my disappointment, over 99% of men sent me a smile emoji instead of writing a message. It feels like junior high with tongue-tied boys.
Your "smile" button enables this immature behavior. I have a master degree and am a published author. I would never send an emoji.
"You are highly intelligent and articulate," my dear friend Bruce, a Ph.D. psychologist said. "You are too smart to put up with this bullshit."
You cannot imagine the disappointment of having my inbox flooded daily by emails from Silver Singles:
"Tom (or Dan, Alex, Cornhusker, Don, Tim, Lee, shyone11, Allen, etc.) has sent you a message."
Excited, I click on your link and it's only a stupid smile emoji. It's frustrating.
SilverSingles is not for me.
I've never used silver singles, but it's hard to believe that 99% of the responses are non-verbal.
Think of it another way...the smile emoji allows You to read their profile and decide if You want to interact...IMO far preferable to a deluge of unwanted, time-wasting verbiage every day
I don't want to encourage men to behave like lazy idiots.
It reinforces them when I look at their profile. They get a message: "LiterateHiker has viewed your profile!"
Sadly the mentality is real, meet these people in real life and it is like being back in HS. I moved into this senior apartment complex 10 years ago. Women of course far outnumber the men and the competition is huge for some of these women.
I gave up on dating sites with the advent of Covid. Just too many bad dates, and stupid interactions. So now I have high ranking military officers contacting me on FB.
High ranking military officers? Sounds like scammers on Facebook.
@LiterateHiker Precisely! I call them out and scold them, and then block them. I was a WAC, and my former husbands were military members, the father of my children was a Major when he retired. Senior military officers will not be trolling strange females on FB.
You have the both enviable and unfortunate trait of having at or near top 1% intellect and having to deal with men (boys?) who've been conditioned to interact with women through dating sites, porn, and misogynistic podcasters.
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words.
