One of my cats likes to lie down on the keyboard when I am on computer. She likes to lie down a books when I try to read. Cats are like that.

Never had a cat who wasn't very affectionate.

Some care, others seem like they don't care but they actually do. It's just that everything is on their terms.

While I suspect my cats are usually just looking for warmth when they seek my lap, it would be very difficult for me to conclude that my cats do not care about me. I've felt different levels of connection with different cats. I lost my Annie about a year ago and I still miss her. She did not necessarily need to be on my lap, but usually liked to be close by, at least in the same room. She ruined my sleep on a nightly basis though as she at some point would come in and need to sleep by my face. I was always happy to feel her soft fur against my cheek.

They really do very. Some are lap cats some don't want you looking at them.

I've been told that being shy or unapproachable is a genetic trait.

All of mine have cuddled or sat on my lap - laid on the keyboard. Come to bed and found a limb that's their favorite to wrap around or be near for warmth.

Some have been more standoffish due to circumstances prior to my getting them home. But that can change with time and care.

That being said there is that occasional one who is standoffish period. Just born that way. Just like a human who doesn't much like other humans. lol

I’ve had cats all my life. Some are cuddlers, and some aren’t so much - kinda like people?

Our two always want to be on a lap. On the keyboard, or in one's case, tending the printer/fax/scanner... they always want to be in the room with you.
