Well I have a new addition. No pictures yet as she is hiding but did come out to say hello this a.m.
I lost my two cats Belladonna 15 about 9 months ago and Mick 3 months ago. And was not looking for another but one found me. Her owner passed away and was taken by a family member but locked in a crate because the family members dogs wanted at the poor dear. So has been through some stress ......brought her home yesterday afternoon she promptly hid but came out this morning to meow at me.
I’ll update .
Any ideas to help her adjust please let me know.
Her name is Quincy but might change that .
She’s 2 and that’s pretty much all I know.
Fixed and declawed.

Meow means thank you for the safe space and will you be feeding me ?

Quincy needs the best clean kitty litter and wet food....tuna, lots of gravy salmon or fish with fresh water next to her food where she hides....rattling a bag of kitten food may remind her of food routines where she once lived....say her name often in different ways until she sets her own routine with you....catnip in with a cup of dry food can also satisfy her memories before her fearsome loss of her first lady

Keep the house quiet and pretty much just let her come to you. It is a good sign that she came out and meowed. She probably already knows you are the keeper of food.

Thank you for adopting her. Sorry to hear about the declawing. Places are starting to outlaw it.

Aw poor kitty. Give her time.

Love cats
...every cat is worth our love and learning from them

Sometimes a little catnip works wonders? But I would start with a toy or food treat and not too much pressure - I bet she'll appreciate the quiet!

The declawing may lead to arthritis years down the line - the finer the litter the easier on her paws (now). I wouldn't use wood pellets for a cat that was declawed.
I'm not sure if anything you do now could help prevent the arthritis later - but declawing is an amputation of the last joint of their toes. It's easy to see why they could have trouble when older.

Quincy? If your name is "Sam" don't change it.

I'd try to lure her out with string. Or you may get another cat to lure he4r out.

Sitting on the floor speaking softly and reassuringly sometimes helps. You don't have to speak to her necessarily, read aloud if you haven't anything to say. Have a couple of cat treats in case she comes to you. Don't try and lure her, just sit quietly.

Sadly, be prepared for problems she might have later from being declawed. It's a barbaric practice 🤬

Just let her explore at her speed. She will adjust as she feels comfortable with you. Poor baby, what a trauma.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
