[facebook.com] Cats are smarter than dogs.
I had a golden retriever, he was the son I never gave birth to. When he was 4 we got a kitten. He weighed about 75#, she was about 4# if you soaked her down. Chief was trained to sit and wait for us to release him when his food bowl was put down. So one night he got the release, and the kitten went running right between his feet for the bowl and helped herself. And poor sweet obedient Chief turned around and looked at me with a hurt look on his face, like he was saying "moooo-ooommm, she's eating MY food!" And I said you poor puppy, she isn't even an appetizer for you. That tiny fur ball bossed that big boy for the rest of his life. He was smart for a dog, but not cat smart.
My cat came home minus his break-away collar 4 days ago. To me meant: either someone grabbed him by the collar or it is still up under a bush nearby. I looked in the bushes that day, I looked in the bushes the next day.. and of course I asked him, "Where's your collar Dazzle?" a lot. Yesterday I was outside looking around bushes again with him at my heals bush to bush. I asked him to, "show me where to find your collar please". He walked away from me..he would stop to turn his head to look at me. I came to the bush that he walked to. He went in the bush, stood still with his neck stretched up! THERE IT WAS HUNG UP ON THE BRANCH WHERE HIS NOSE WAS AT! The one bush that I didn't want to check days ago, because it was too close to a neighbor's bedroom window.
& I've seen research that goes the other way. I think they are just completely different animals & can't be judged by the same criteria. Literally an apples to oranges type of comparison!
I love & I adore cats. I worship dogs. This faux comparison & eternal arguement is really moot. Each animal evolved at different times, with different circumstances resulting in brain function differrences. There is no smarter. There is smarter in different situations of which each evolved appropriately for that circumstance. Dogs are more dependent on humans. Cats are nocturnal. Dogs are diurnal. So of course cats have more visual abilities in order to see better in the dark. I always question sources on the internet. Any one can make a video. Spelling, word choice & grammatical errors are an indication for me to question any production. Am I being to picky? My standards are too high? I am often told "YES". I just can't help myself. No offense.
Two cats and a German Shepherd in the house. They seem about equal in intelligence.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
