I remember these days well. It was after WWII and before the cold war. Everything was booming. There were just as many bigots and ignorant people back then but we tried to work together. I was 13 and in high school. I felt some trust in politicians of both parties. It wasn't good vs evil. In four more years I would join the Army.
Their new plan is just to fuck all workers and let the poor get poorer.

The prosperity and government trust came from FDR. He set the USA on a path to succeed and Eisenhower couldn’t very well screw everything up for all the veterans who fought for the country. Reagan came into actively undo the New Deal.
It's a very rare politician who cares about his constituents enough to keep focused on a goal of making our country a better place instead of enriching themselves. The Reagan regime allowed the corporations to take part in creating the government laws to enhance their own profits for their stockholders and executives with lower taxes and loopholes.
Not a one of those would the Rethugs of today back - not even to give just lip-service to...
It was good for the people in the US, yes.
But it was an bipartisan, agreed-on evil for the people in the rest of the world.
The US had just overthrown democratic governments in Iran, 1953, and Guatemala 1954. This would leave the people in those countries in poverty, chaos, genocide, and fascism.
In Vietnam, the US had in that very year, 1956, stopped democratic elections that would have unified the country under Ho Chi Minh.
When Republicans and Democrats agree, it's bad news for the people living in the rest of the world. It means they are agreeing on murderous imperialism...
