Most of the problem stems from the fact that Texas has the most powerful influence due to it's many school districts..

It IS a problem, the same as the near monopoly on local tv news affiliates around the country, or local newspapers in countless communities owned by one entity. Even radio stations. In the case of the textbooks, we know this Texas industry sets the standard for what is considered knowledge, and there are many many examples of white-washed, pro-Christian, and racially tone-deaf textbooks. No wonder so many Americans gravitate to Rupert Murdock's Faux "News"
