Dirty Dozen from the book Bypassing Dystopia: Hope-filled challenges to corporate rule by Joyce Nelson
“Neoliberalism has fostered an agenda that (to my way of thinking) has 12 predominant aspects. Think of them as “the dirty dozen”:
1. Deregulation
2. Open borders for Capital
3. Small government/Big State
4. Tax cuts for multinational corporations
5. Austerity budgets
6. Union-busting
7. Privatization of public assets
8. Corporate rights (or “free trade&rdquo deals
9. Tax havens
10. No limits to growth
11. Central bank “independence”
12. Privatization of the money-creation function
Fostered since 1973 by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and a variety of corporate think tanks, the Neoliberal economic agenda has created environmental destruction and massive wealth inequality across the planet and is finally being challenged, including by economists themselves. “
I agree with you and I think you should use the fay cobitist instead
@ToolGuy;
I've read your posts before. This doesn't sound like you.
Let me try to understand you better...are you saying this "dirty dozen" are 12 "aspects on the agenda" of Neo-liberals that they oppose or support?
You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're being facetious? Tongue-in-cheek?
Liberals, progressives, and socialists want regulation.
They don't want "open borders".
They don't want tax cuts for multinationals.
They want unions, not union busting.
They don't want tax havens.
They want limits to growth.
Progressives and socialists are far more cognizant of the effects of growth on climate and social well being than the #religulous conservatives.
Are you saying that "neoliberalism" is bad (for Canada)? That they're "in its clutches now"?
This sounds like a serious attack using flowery rhetoric on the progressive and socialist movement in America.
Take your "dirty dozen" story to the Conservatives page...I'm sure you'll get a lot of readers there who will pretend they understand what you're talking about.
Here's the original article - espousing "bypassing dystopia" for Canadians..
@ToolGuy Like I said, and explained....this doesn't sound like Neo-liberalism to me. I read that Canadian article a couple of times...and I'll copy and paste what I said above;
Please; prove me wrong? I don't really get that you think "Neo-liberals" are opposed to these concepts.
@ToolGuy Maybe it's the term that irks me. In my book, progressives and western democratic soclialists are the "Neoliberals" you're referring to? Neo - new; Liberal - liberal, loose, free, progressive minded. I don't get the term, then?
No...you're right. It's me not understanding the origins of the terminology.
I will study this more.
@ToolGuy Too much chatter for me....and too many opinions, no data, no back-up with links, facts, visuals. Hard to trust a simple "talk" with no visuals..
@ToolGuy Thanks for the effort....I just don't buy it.
Too many definitions, with definitions within definitions.
It's categorizing.
You're wasting your time with me...I'm a progressive/liberal, with fiscally and scientifically conservative leanings. Period.
I think those trying to define "Neo-liberalism" who need "maps' to follow it....are at an intellectual level beyond where I want to be.
Categorize as you like. It's just not for me to follow it...or delve in to it.
@dan325 That's been my point. I don't make the connection between the prefix "Neo" and the concept of "liberalism" to mean Libertarian concepts. Thanks for pointing out the oft misunderstood situation.
Assholes
Please don't just post rude remarks. Tell us why you think that way....C'mon, Bob...I value your opinions.
