I still have some datura seeds if anyone wants to try them this spring. They are very much a warm weather plant, Mine don't come up until late May or early June most years, but once they get the heat they continue blooming until first frost. They bloom at night, for one night but are super fragrant.
As I'm in Western Australia, I'll have to decline that offer, but thank you glennlab. Biosecurity is taken very seriously here.......... I would probably get 10yrs in solitary for importing seeds.
Wow, which Datura species is that, growing so low down on the ground? How hardy are they? I'd love seeds if they aren't too delicate.
I believe Inoxia, they can handle down to freezing, in most areas the root tuber will winter over for 3-5 years, Once daytime temps are over 70 degrees, they will sprout without too much trouble. Mine had over 300 blooms one night. The worst that can happen is it doesn't do as well as you hoped, they are very low maintenance. PM me your address and I'll mail them out to you.
Wow, if they don't come up in Dallas that late they will never survive in my area. I wonder, though, if there are hybrids for different regions. I recently planted a pomegranate hybrid. Pomegranates will grow here and even produce fruits but there is not enough heat for the fruit to ripen. The Red Angel is one that will ripen and is supposed to good to 0 degrees (it doesn't get anyway near that cold here). You can see how we fit into the zone map.
They would do much better in Spokane or Yakima than where you are, The coastal range may or may not get warm enough. You're welcome to try I gathered almost 2 ounces of seeds, so it's not a question of wasting them.
are they invasive?
No, They are native to the desert SW, and will get up to 10 feet across in areas that have more water and nutrients, but are not problems of too many plants. They die back at first frost, I use them as an alternative food source for the green tomato hook worm as well as for the flowers.
Not in your area.
@misternatureboy just pm me your address and I'll mail them out to you. A few people got theirs last fall that way.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
