WTF? I mean...Human DNA in genetically modified rice, and they are growing it outdoors.
Unfortunately the green revolution is dying and chemical companies think hey have found a way to feed the multiplying masses of people. I see this as just another product of overpopuation. It will probably get even worse. It is said when the world hits 9 billion people we will need half again as much food as we produce now.
Soylent Green
@Hathacat It would really be nice to decide when to end it all and go out as peaceful as the film showed. However, it has now been shown nature has instilled a way to limiting cannibalism in some species including our own. "Cannibalism and the shaking death: A new form of the disease and a possible epidemic"

I agree with RavenCT that more oversight is almost always needed. The quest for the next greatest, and most profitable item should be checked to make sure safety is addressed first. Just think of all the times a nonnative species was introduced to "fix" a problem.
On the other hand, we have long used flora (thinking mostly yeast here) to produce useful things. Not sure how often human DNA was used, but it really doesn't matter (to me). DNA (or RNA) is DNA, regardless of species and if it can be used to make beneficial products, I am game. It's not as though one can incorporate DNA into one's lineage by inhaling or ingesting it.
"Their intention was to harvest the artificial enzymes produced by the rice and use them in pharmaceuticals. Ventria has taken one of the most widely grown and consumed crops and turned it into the base for new prescription drugs — all with USDA approval, of course.".
Should it have been grown in closed quarters? Yes. Probably. But I doubt a heaping bowl of enzymes would kill anyone.
Seems like we need more oversight.
I see the potential here for a great "B" science fiction movie! Or maybe a new X-Files episode!
@bigpawbullets Obviously there should be Killer Bees involved too....
These pharmaceutical companies need to be reined in for sure. Which repub is making money off this is what I want to know!!
Who is in Kansas?
@DotLewis Lol Dorothy.
Between the tornadoes and the Republicans, how in the heck do you manage?
@itsmedammit Some days it is hard. In the '16 election, 80% of voters in the county I live in, in rural, western Kansas, went for tRump. Much of this part of Kansas went the same way. One of the hardest things about that was being forced to realized the number of people who I have lived around for 30 years voted for a man who was clearly exposed as being of miserable character. I take some comfort in the fact that lately I am running across people who have clearly had enough of tRump. Two years ago, I only knew one person who had little good to say about him.
Tornadoes, I've only ever seen one. That was while traveling home from work one day, headed pretty much toward the storm. Despite that limited observation, one passed within a block of my toddler and I in Lawrence years ago, leaving our trailer peacefully sitting there while removing much of the next block over. I get pretty antsy when nasty weather come in, especially when I can't see. When you are back a couple miles and it is daylight they are actually pretty awesome to see.
If I was younger, without "responsibilities" I would probably pack it up and haul out to the west coast somewhere. I fantasize about "running away" on a regular basis. Getting a tiny house on wheels, moving the critters and bare essentials into it and just disappearing into the wilderness sounds awfully enticing sometimes. Just leave everything else behind and never look back.
@DotLewis Even around here, I am still shocked and surprised by the number of Trump supporters, even people that I am related to. Very disheartening.
