Hello All,
My name is Josh and I'm a former marijuana cultivator. I've been jailed numerous times for cultivation in Kentucky where marijuana is illegal but all were misdemeanors and as my friends and myself were always very knowledgeable of law here, I was never caught with anything other than seed stock. My record has since been expunged. Believe it or not in Kentucky (I cannot speak to other states where marijuana prohibition exists as I lived in California for 12 years) the legal system is actually rather lenient on our plight if one plays it right. So, what I'll share with decades of cultivation knowledge will be at your own risk. Please be aware marijuana is still a Schedule I drug at the Federal level and crossing state lines with the plant constitutes a federal crime, even if the state you live in has legalized the drug.
My background. Circa mid-1990's I and a group of friends began experimenting with marijuana cultivation. I can speak in depth to my friend's research, but I'll focus on mine. I've lived in Kentucky, California (decriminalized), Rotterdam, Nederlands (legal) and Wellington, New Zealand (illegal). My early 1990's experiments were focused on spectrums of light. Specifically the orange/red spectrum of light that forces what is termed the flowering cycle in marijuana plants. This is the light spectrum that produces the THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) compound that people desire of the plant. There are two major plant cycles; vegetive growth (blue/purple light spetrum) and flowering growth (red/orange spectrum). My experiments had to with altering metal halide lights (blue/purple vegetive growth) with colored gels to behave as high pressure sodium lights. The goal was to genetically alter strains of Indica to more quickly move through vegative growth to flowering. I was busted with seeds and shut my grow room down before the experiments were complete. I've since learned quite a bit from other growers around the world and have come to understand exactly how awesome this plant's genetics are. I will gladly share the knowledge I've attained concerning this plant for those that seek it. I'm always learning as well, so if you feel comfortable with sharing I'm always all ears.
*Note: I have never grown marijuanna as a means for finance. My growing experiences have always been directed toward personal pleasure of the plant and experimentation. My friends' and I sought to create strains of the plant that were to be shared with each other and as sources of personal accomplishment, not for general distribution. While I do understand the lure of cultivation for the entrepreneur, it was not about this for us. So, again, if your goal is to profit from cultivation this will be at your own risk. As previously written, in places where cultivation is illegal possession versus distribution carry vastly different penalties.
Welcome to the site and this group Josh. Most in this group write about growing flowers and veggie plants, but your expertise may be welcome to some other members. Thanks for joining.
