The System, Youth and Democracy

When masses of students from all over the world mobilize around a utopia, adults become uncomfortable, writes Roberto Savio.

(That distance is quite large … many of us have betrayed those ideals or put them to sleep. The way out is skepticism and paternalism. We know the reality, we know what dreams are, and young people should listen to our experiences. In May 1968, during the student riots in France, Tristan Tzara, the father of Dadaism, shouted to the marching students from his balcony: ”Criez, criez, vous serez tous des notaires” (Yell, shout, you will all be notaries). And for those of us who have not betrayed ideals and commitments, there is the sad realization that we are a failed generation, a generation that was unable to implement its vision of a better society.)

I often ask myself, where did all those students who protested during the 60s and 70s go. I know them well. As a kid we lived in an apartment above a paint store in downtown Kent Ohio. I remember when the Vietnam protest would go on downtown as bus loads of cops would march down past our doorway down stairs towards the center of town. We then moved on the other side of downtown at one point behind a bank with a large parking lot where they, the cops, went through the same procedure. Unload from buses from the other side of downtown. I imagine they would then drive them east across route 59 towards KSU. Of course most of you probably know the rest of the story on one particular day. 4 dead in Ohio May 4, 1970.

Failed generation, or absorbing into a program of perception management. Is there a difference? This would be about the time the CIA's program would be kicking in as they infiltrate main stream media. Media monopolizing getting underway.

(Now we know what capitalism and finance mean when they are unchecked. We now have a financial system that is 40 times more powerful that the world of industry and services, and without any control. Since 2008, banks have been fined over $800 billion for illegal practices.)

800 billion sounds like a lot, but in perspective, that's a lot of banks really only paying a mere fraction of what they made from raping society. With no one really being jailed for serious crimes! And a lot of CEO's actually getting bonuses on their way out of the door if that even was an end result. Even worse, as with our presidential administrations, even after 2008, Obama's, one being installed within to over see regulations on banks.
