Anyone have advice on how to come out ofthe atheist closet?
jlynn37 comments on Aug 28, 2018:
It is YOUR life so live it the way you want. There is no reason to "come out" as anything just because you feel the need too, there is no reason to explain your life to anyone. When questioned, simply be honest and truthful, go no further than required by the questioner. Give your reasons for why you are what you are and do not engage in a discussion as it will only lead to an argument. If they do not want to accept your reasons, simply turn and walk away as any further talk will be fruitless and a waste of time and energy. There are ALWAYS consequences to your life choices, but again, it is YOUR life to live as YOU see fit and in MY opinion, that is the ONLY way to live YOUR life.

I hope you can read this, John McCain's last words from his last book.
jlynn37 comments on Aug 28, 2018:
John McCain was a human being, a man, a politician foremost and a conservative one. His actions, whether good or bad, helpful or harmful, was dictated by his political mindset and philosophy. We ALL have such a mindset and that is just how it is. He made his mark on this country and on the world to an extent. Take it for what it is worth.
Most of my favorite scientists:
jlynn37 comments on Aug 26, 2018:
Reading about all the notable scientists is a remarkable undertaking and so many contributed so much over time. The phrase "standing on the shoulders of giants" is apropos. I would definitely include Paul Dirac and Richard Feynman to your list, just to name two of my own.
I'm slowly beginning to learn the difference between solitude and loneliness.
jlynn37 comments on Aug 26, 2018:
I am an introvert, a loner and prefer to be by myself MOST of the time, so I can not relate to your situation. I have no pets, nor do I want one, and I have been a single man for 50 years, have lived alone for 40 years, have had a fantastic life as a single man and would change very little if I could. I wish you well in your life's journey and success in finding what you are searching for here and in your life

jlynn37 comments on Aug 26, 2018:
I am an affectionate man, I came from a family of huggers and I have no issues with being hugged and/or hugging and enjoy it very much. I will always ask a stranger if I could get a hug before proceeding and always respect the answer. It applies to both men and women equally.
Sunday activities. What does your 'normal' Sunday look like?
jlynn37 comments on Aug 26, 2018:
I have been retired for almost 24 years. Retired people (at least the ones who do not work) only have 5 days to consider: day before yesterday, yesterday, today, tomorrow and day after tomorrow. I am enjoying today just a I have the past 2 days, doing pretty much as I please, and expect the same for the next 2 days. Life is good.

When I was a youngster visiting cousins in rural Appalachia Virginia, we went to a tent revival meeting and a woman who was sitting close to me, holding and nursing her baby, suddenly started jumping up and down, talking in tongues, the baby screaming and the nursing tit bouncing around. It was a sight to witness.
