I have a lot of pain in my back from past surgeries. I refuse to take narcotics as a source of pain relief they do not work, at least not in my system. About three weeks ago I had a steroid injection. About 3 days later the steroids wore off and the pain returned. The last two and a half weeks I have been suffering more so than usual. I bought this medicine seemingly holistic from Amazon arnica. Has anyone had any luck with anything relieving pain?

Depends on how high the pain threshhold is. I use Tiger Balm to relieve minor aches and pains, but not sure that would be good enough for you based on what you said above.

This is a good phy out medicine. The brain thinks your skin is on fire releases dopamine to help your nerves cope with pain.

Sorry to hear about the pain. I have chronic pain from osteoarthritis and have tried various methods. I have found that yoga, tens machine helps, but the best one has been eating chicken feet. Yes I know it sounds crazy but there you go.

Powered chicken feet for everyone lol. Must help your body release dopamine.

@azzow2 I don't know what it releases but it seems to be working for me.

You need to see a Neurologist. I suspect you'd do well with ablation.

They sever the painful nerves, Repeated every few months because nerves will work around the cutting. Done with medication or radiofrequency - see this link: [spine-health.com]

Do you have a pain management doc? I'd recommend looking into a rhizotomy.

I do she just stuck 6 needles in my back trying to solve this arthritis issue.

@azzow2 Seriously...ask her if a rhizotomy would help. It's basically a nerve block.

@Secretguy It might be limited because I get treatment from the V.A and they do not always see eye to eye with the normal medical practices. I will try though.

@azzow2 That pisses me off. They should take care of you guys! Damn.

In 1997 I broke my left hand and left pelvis, 2008 I compression fractured my L1 vertebrae, in 2011 I broke my L5, L3, L2, L1 and T12 vertebrae and my lower left pelvis plus more injuries. Tried the narcotics, caused more problems than was worth. They did the steroid injections a few different times (multiple each time), facet ablations ect and still not helping. I am too young for fusions ect so now I just live with it until I am. A friend has had 3 neck surgeries and says smoking weed is far better than the meds, I have never liked it, well my body doesn’t so don’t know about that direction.

I just had the second steroid injection of an "up to 3" series done yesterday. The treatment fixed my back/neck/shoulder for two years last time. I'm confident 2 will do me again.
Have you returned to your pain management doc for a followup?

This is the 6th time steroids over about 12 years every time they only last between 3 and 4 days.

Headed to fusion surgery in July--I feel your pain...hang in there!

I hearya, I have lumbar scoliosis and it's getting painful. Nothing OTC works and I don't want opiates. I'm trying physical therapy, next. If that works, I'll let folks know.

I've been suffering pain since a back operation, it radiates to my left foot, the smallest three toes. It's like they are chopped off, sometimes, but there is nothing wrong with my foot. I've been to six pain specialists; they have nothing effective to control the pain. Ibuprofen helps a little, but being careful with my back and meditation are my mainstay. Good luck with yours.

I have something that will help you. Hot peppers or even strong cinnamon. If you eat these you do not even have to swallow them if you do not want to. What you are looking for is the burn. When your brain detects pain like that it released dopamine into your bloodstream and it dose help with severe pain.

I would not trust any such treatment. I had back pain for 14 years. It rook a laminectomy or removal of a disc to end the pain -- and it worked. I have been largely free of back pain for over 35 years.

You are one of the fortunate ones. I had an 8 millimeter part of the disc break off put pressure on my nerve caused wicked pain. It was liquefied and removed. 2 years later the disc totally dissolved. polymer cage and titanium screws were put in place of the missing disc. Lasted awhile then the pain got worse. Pain management doctor cauterized nerve last a short time now the pain is annoying again.

If you find anything please let me know, because nothing outside of oxycodone and duexis and diclofenac gel has done anything for me.

I dropped the hydrocodone about 5 years ago. Have been doing Jedi mind since. It works some I induce dopamine often with habanero peppers a lot.

medical cannabis Aaron-does NM have it?

Can't do that with the kids around would never risk even the legal stuff is still risky.

@azzow2 There is medical marijuana that has none of the regular affects of it and made just for pain! It won't get you high but can take away the pain! Find a DOC that will get you hooked up for it!

I can't comment on your specific case, damage to nerves and spine etc. Speaking generally, start with eating a low inflamation diet, exercise (work with an expert who understands back pain) and if you have excess weight, lose it. There are countless studies than demonstrate the efficacy of this approach versus surgery and drugs.

Kratom. Much success, although I suggest everyone do their own research. I joined a few FB groups before taking the jump. I am on my 4th surgery in two years. Back surgery (lower),. 2 disc fusions and repair of a massive rotator cuff surgery.
I have my life back thanks to Kratom

Weed is my standby. Edibles can be better than smoking for pain. Try CBD oil if you can’t or won’t smoke or have concerns about legality.

Alternating between heat and cold helps. Heating/vibrating pad to lean back on, shock your back with cold water for as long as you can stand it at the beginning and end of your hot shower. Depending on your ability and range of motion a yoga regimen might help. Yen yoga is very relaxing, it’s all about lying back in certain positions and letting gravity do the work. Tibetan yoga is the fastest way to strengthen the back, 7 positions and only the last couple are sorta challenging. Don’t push yourself past where you’re comfortable and consult a doctor before trying any challenging exercises though. Worth lookin into.

I don't know brother... some people claim overwhelming results... good luck...

3

Yes. I have Degenerative Joint Disease and a bulging disc in my back. Yoga, swimming and occasional acupuncture is quite helpful. Also, take tumeric with curcumin and glucosamine with chondroitin. Also, CBD oil helps.

Disc disease is what the doctor says is my problem. One disc eroded away and arthritis has crept in.

Have you tried medicinal marijuanna? I have many friends that say it is the only thing that relieves their pain! The proper stuff does not get you high but the street stuff acording to some users doesn't really get rid of the pain but you don't care any more!lmao

Had used cannabis when I was in my 20`s seems to give me a gnarly headache last time I used it. The other problem is I am a single dad responsible for two seven-year-old lives and I need to be lucid.

Eh? Yes medicinal marijuana will still get you high and “street stuff” is no different if you’re getting the good stuff it’s all the same. If anything medical will be slightly stronger. CBD oil is the only way I know of to separate the pain n inflammation relief from the psychoactive effects.

@Wurlitzer There is medical Marijuana that does not get you high! They have many different types of marijuana medications now and most of them do not get you high!

@Johnnyvee yeah I guess I forgot that there’s stuff bred to have more CBD than anything and very little THC. Didn’t think they could get it all the way out of the bud but I’m sure they can get closer than I need lol. @azzow2 have you tried CBD oil? www.cwhemp.com

@Wurlitzer Have not. I see others recommended that I will have to research that some.

2

Have you tried medical marijuana ? It's working wonders for many in pain.

My kids are too important, for me to be messed up and all dopey headed.

@azzow2 when prescribed by a doctor, and adjusted for your individual pain level, you'll remain fully functional, not "dopey". But hey - it's certainly your call, and your pain.
Good luck

@evergreen I had to go through a shit creek to get custody of my kids and have tons of my energies into them. Just being very careful with every move.
