I'm a better Christian than most Christians and I'm an atheist.

Thats a great way of putting it. You do not need to follow any religious doctrine to tell you what is right or wrong, it is your good sense and empathy for others and decency that is your morale code.

Haha! I've been accused of being a Christian because of a few good deeds. Was proud to say, not at all, I'm a happy atheist! I believe in good!

I suspect that many atheists follow the fiction of Christ as its often a rational philosophy.

Many Christians need to be less Christians and more Christ-like!

I'm using this, thanks. Lol

I have been told the same by a no. of devout Catholics. Surely last comment or question should be 'why are you devout anything, in that case'.

And probably have at least as much chance of getting to heaven?

It is easier to be an ethical person as an atheist. As a christian, my motivation to be good was to avoid the wrath of god. Fear is not a good motivation. And ethics, or morality, was defined as what god commands. When I became an atheist, I had to redefine ethics and morality. It took a lot of study and thought, but I am now solidly grounded in ethics, and I am a much better person than before.

fear is what keeps slaves in line! If you anlyize the book you can see it was to keep slaves in line

thats a good description. I give that an A+

Totally understand what you’re saying there,...... and totally sympathise! But to quote from The Princess Bride,..... ‘you keep using that word,..... I do not think it means what you think it means.....!’

You’ve rolled with the abstract notion that Christian societies intangibly have of the word ‘Christian’.... being more or less synonymous with goodness n niceness. But there is no ‘actual’ definition of Christianity, either defined by their teachings, their actions, their beliefs, or their self proclamations even that would agree with that abstract and cuddly notion.

‘Christian’ doesn’t,.... & can’t,..... by any reasonable metric mean what I think you think it does! 😉

Feel the same here.

Yeah. Sometimes I feel that way too. Having been raised as a Methodist, I'm familiar with their tenets and can bring those things up in discussions. Pointing out their behavior being opposite in practice. Sort of a hobby of mine, actually.

4

Me too.

I have the same said about me and muslims.

That's assuming that they practice what they preach, which is quite rare from my experience.

All it takes to be a better christian is to say, "I'm a better christian"

3

Lest we forget, Hitler was a Christian. He went to enormous effort to get the spear that Christos believe pierced the side of Christ, believing it had power properties from his blood. Science has now shown that it is from the middle ages. My point: calling oneself a christian means nothing by itself.

I'm The Bestest...

Lol!

That is true of the nonbelievers l know.

I find it funny that we relate Christendom to having good morals, kind hearts, and a giving non-judgmental nature. In fact, being Christian means you're exactly opposite from all of those things according to the bible. If you're a better christian than most christians then you're probably a really bad person. Hahaha. 🙂

2

Don't you mean you are a better person without a reward or threat to be a good person then religious people!

2

I suspect that only a small minority of Christians behave in the unchristian way that you are talking about. I have received nothing but love, respect, and support from church members that I knew from long ago. To stereotype them seems unchristian. Our opinions about religion are but a tiny part of who we are IMO.

well you have not been were I have been

While I appreciate your comment, I completely disagree with you. I give a lot of my time to our communities, to treat others with respect, love my friend and family unconditionally, am honest almost to a fault, care to help all walks of life - not just those that are legally in our country, and help anyone that I can. I cannot say the same for the hundreds of Christian's that I've come across. Even those that I love, I find myself to be more Christ-like than they are.
