Okay guys, I want to ask a question. Every time I look at a woman's profile, her pictures have several likes. I have a bunch of pictures in my profile, and nobody has liked a single one. Is it a guy/girl thing? Why is this? I know I'm not hideous or anything. Or am I just being sensitive? Are women worried about liking a man's picture? I'm not posting this to get someone to like my pictures, I'm just curious.

As a woman, I feel if I "like" a picture, I am inviting that person to message me and flirt with me and try to hook up... which I'm not. So I avoid the like button. Not entirely sure if all women think like this though.

Honesty. How refreshing!

@OldWiseAss There is a lot of that here, is there not?

I have "liked" men's photos when they are smiling and look happy.

What matters more than anything when it comes to your online dating profile? One word: Photos. Photos can drastically increase your chances of getting more communication and dates. Or not.

Want to completely kill any chances of success? Then upload blurry, dark or poor quality images. This seems like an obvious statement, but thousands of people upload pics like this.

If your main photo is not clear, bright and attractive, they move on. A genuine smile is inviting, warm and appealing. Women want to see your eyes and smile.

If you look happy in your photos, women will see you as a fun person they will enjoy being around.

To make you stand out, the background should contrast with your hair color. Choose a background that is clean and uncluttered.

Your main photo should be a head-and-shoulder shot, showing you smiling and looking at the camera. You also need one full body shot, again taken outdoors and smiling.

Other pictures should show you outdoors, doing activities you enjoy. No hats, sunglasses, alcohol or stupid poses. You must be in every picture.

Caption and date each photo- giving the location and year- to make the photos more interesting and clear. Make the captions short and humorous, if possible.

Show your pearly whites! Women assume:

A nice smile = healthy mouth = good kisser

Every man I met with closed-mouth photos had horrid teeth: missing teeth, rotten, brown, gray or yellow teeth, nasty tartar, badly crooked, and/or breath that stank of rotten meat. UGH. I can't imagine kissing that.

As someone with Asperger's, I know fully well that what you are saying is 100% correct for Neurotypical people (ie people who are not on the Autism spectrum) but what you are saying seems to me, to be so alien, artificial, contrived, fake and forced. I know 98% of people would agree with you and disagree with me, but to me, I think all that preening looks like Birds of Paradise doing their dances and building their bowers. I can see that it must work well, but it just seems so shallow. I truly mean no offence.

Okay, I'm straight and I am not hitting on you, but I liked a pic in your profile. Don't get too excited though, it's because of the dogs. 😀

JimG Level 8 July 5, 2018

Lol, thanks.

I haven't liked anyone's pictures on here but I haven't spent a lot of time looking. I'm enjoying reading the posts mostly.

I look at profiles that interest me, always look at photos, but I never like or dislike any.

6

You’ve hit on a good strategy for getting people to like your pics.

Well, that wasn't really the goal, but okay.

6

I have never noticed my profile picture being liked. I am clearly missing something!

Livia Level 6 July 5, 2018

There ya go. I'm the 4th gentleman with equisite taste.
😉

@bigpawbullets ?, still can’t see a thing! Obviously need to work on navigating this site. Thanks for the confidence boost, though!

I haven’t liked the pictures on anybody’s profile… I don’t really go to profiles much, usually just if my finger slips... on occasion though just to see who’s behind a grand post🙂, haven’t liked on a pic... but I’m not looking for a date... I just like atheists🙂

I boldly visited your profile page and liked a bunch of pictures..... because I'm a rebel like that.
Also, men are significantly more "visual" then women. I can't speak for all females. I don't really care what you look like, not at first anyway. I might get curious eventually. Men tend to look for "hot" women, women tend to look for intersting or good men, looking good is an in the eye of the beholder thing.

I on the other hand took down my photo because I wanted to converse on my content rather then cover.

That's what "they" say, but it's not my exp. I'm visual.
Can't help wonder if that thoughtline contributes to all the profiles of a certain gender that resemble IDGAF mugshots. Whole Lotta Mugshot action going on.

@Qualia It seems there's a lot of generalizing about the nature of men and women going on here. Dare I say stereotyping? Sure, maybe some men and women tend to fit that b.s., but I think we're messing up our community by calling attention to it in a way that it applies either to all men or all women.

I hadn't noticed the likes before. Just like I don't know about the percentage and level thing. I just signed up as an alternative to facebook. I got sick of the prayer warriors plus I want a regular fellow but there aren't many from my area.

5

No one have liked my pics either......oh wait, I don't have any ????

@zephr nope, just nobody ?

5

There. I "liked" all of your pictures.
And sorry, you ARE hideous. But in a Manly way.
Just kidding.
😉

Lol, thanks. I guess.

@tnorman1236
Don't sweat this kind of stuff man.
You're "good to go"!

@bigpawbullets I'm not sweating it. I was just genuinely curious, especially if it was the same way with other guys.

@tnorman1236
I've some pics out on my profile. I've no idea who liked them. Since I'm happily married and fiercely monagmous, I could care less.

I didn't know you could do this until I looked at my own profile pics. I will work to be better at liking pictures of everyone because if you took the time to post them, feedback would be nice. I just was not aware.

3

I've recieved some honest female feedback on how to change my photos and bio. I'm going to work on what they said. Get women's honest opinions about your photos and bio. If I had grown up with a sister, I think I would understand women much better. I think it just takes alot of practice, like everything else in life. Can't give up. In a post you could ask members 'what Is one thing I can do to improve or to make my profile more appealing to women?'. I'm going to post it now. : )

3

It’s a male/female thing. Expect to get less messages from women. Women tend to get a lot of messages to them on apps like this.

3

Who cares if people like or don't like your photos. Having meaningful conversations with someone is more important than how many profile visitors you have or how many likes your photos get. People don't like narcissism.

Of course the conversations are more important. I was just curious about the disparity in photo likes.

3

I get the impression there are some men who will hit on every woman they see on a dating site, or even a non-dating site with messaging etc!

Salo Level 7 July 5, 2018

You get the correct impression. We also can tell those messages from genuine ones.

@Minta79 and great thats one less reason for me being ignore then

3

I think most likes on women's pictures are from men.

I know. That's why I'm wondering if it's a guy/girl thing.

3

I didn't even know pictures could be liked on this site...

Well, I'm the 4th person with incredibly good taste to like your pic.
😉

@bigpawbullets Well, thank you!

Holy shit!
You're local! We'll invite you to an evening social event next time we have one!

@bigpawbullets Very local, if you're adopting pets from SICSA. Nice to "meet" you!

@Minta79
I've one right now pacing around me.... reminding me that we're 2 minutes past snack time!!!

Don't feel bad. I have a damn cute baby picture on my profile and nobody even liked that! Women always say they want a sensitive guy, but as soon as you show a little sensitivity, they run off with a guitar player. Despite the song lyrics, it ain't a "man's world." '😉

@zephr - As children, we were all bent by our elders to grow in the direction they deemed proper. Boys and girls alike. Some of us (Most of us here, in one major way) had the courage to bend towards a different sun. It's painful and difficult to recognize that all the powerful people we look up to in our lives have got it all wrong.

As far as the patriarchy in America is concerned. I think we've finally turned a corner. Many sharp bends in the road lie ahead, though!

2

I honestly just don't really visit other people's profiles in the first place--so I've never liked anyone's photos.

Mea Level 7 July 5, 2018

I liked the one with the horns. Because I love guys in goofy hats.

Lol, thanks.

Ok so my wife says she can tell at a glance if a guy is date worthy. I've looked at guys pics with her and it's the smile. The ones she has swiped right on look like they have a sense of humor but not an immature sense of humor (so no props). BTW, if you want more likes on your picture hold a cute dog in the photo.

Lol, I've got one pic with my dogs.

@thatgirllaura My brain saw "suit" and "pose."

Which reminded me instantly of somebody here who is posed, full body shot, in what I assume is a bikini bathing suit or men's bikini underwear. Maybe it's just me, but please no.

@thatgirllaura Oh, it wasn't what you said -- it was what my brain flashed to. 🙂

I didn't even know you could LIKE a picture, but I probably wouldn't like a picture from someone I barely know. I assume women get enough compliments on their appearance, it's just white noise or even annoying.

If someone I knew well posted a picture of something fun or they seemed extremely happy, I'd like it.

I've mostly given up on online dating. When I was on match, some women liked a few of my pictures but they also didn't seem interested in dating which I thought was a little odd. I think online dating reinforces bad stereotypes in too many people and only know one couple who met on a dating site.

I can't speak for all women, but most never tire of being told we're pretty. Ok, I never tire of it. Tell me I'm pretty. (Sorry, I couldn't help it. I am the snarky...)

@Minta79 You're pretty!

@zephr online dating can work, maybe I just don't have the knack? My friend's wife (the ones who met on match) basically wrote my most successful profile. I know it's anecdotal but most of my friend's who have done online dating think it's a waste of time and money.

Online dating allows men to look at hundreds of personal photos of women who want to show their most physically attractive side and lets women let loose on all their filtering. I've watched women reject a men simply bc one photo looked dorky.

Throw in all the scammers and prostitution, by various names, and it doesn't seem like online dating sets people up for success in dating IMO.

I might re-activate my match or chemistry accounts in a few months but it seems highly unlikely since I'm getting some dates from acquaintances and just carrying books as conversation starters.

@zephr I've just started being open to dating again. The freedom in being single is awesome, it lets me do long bicycle trips where I get hit by cars 🙂

I probably came off a little desperate right after my divorce, for a variety of reasons, but you're 100% correct nothing puts people off like desperation.

Never tried PoF or cupid, maybe I'll look into those thanks.

This "likes" thing just started. i have not gotten around to liking profile pictures. I read your biography and sometimes I fire off an email. UI don't remember if i liked a profile.
