@Lukian Everything has risks. I try to stay away from things I'm unsure about, like glow in the dark tattoo ink, for example. I have allergies to some tattoo ink so I also take that into consideration. Different brands of tattoo ink have different effects on me.

@Lukian I don't. I know it's a science based observation. There are indeed careless tattoo artists and shops that have endangered the health of their clients. You have to research everything and weigh the risks.

@graceylou we ingest a lot of junk and ink is one that could create big trouble especially if you have a compromised immune system.

I go to the Tattoo convention locally and met artists from all over the world. I'm truly amazed by the Japanese tattoo artists. I love Japanese style tattoos.

A couple of things if you don't mind ...why do you want the word 'Diabetic' on there? Also - have you considered the colors and their 'value' ... red ink fades really fast and low contrast means it will look muddy in a few years.

I like the idea, but I don’t understand the need for the date of diagnosis. And yes, I would have it read from the other direction.

Why do I want the word 'Diabetic' on there? Because I am diabetic (seems obvious.) I do not want there to be any doubt in the mind of any medical personnel who are treating me that they are dealing with someone who has diabetes. If there is no trauma or other indication as to why I am in need of medical assistance it could very well be something related to diabetes. The 'T1' is important because it indicates Type 1 diabetes -- meaning that I am insulin dependent and, therefore, on insulin therapy. That is equally important.

The red color for the Star of Life is something I've not yet firmly decided upon. On the one hand, the Star of Life is typically blue. I have nothing against blue. But all similar tattoos I have seen have it in red, and I'm not sure why. If there is a reason for that I would like to know what it is. Either way, if I live long enough to have to have it touched up because of it fading, whatever color I ultimately choose, I will gladly accept the inconvenience!! lol

I don't need the date of diagnosis. I want the date of diagnosis. Why? I don't know. I guess because the date I was diagnosed was the date that changed my life more profoundly than any other date I can think of. I was 24 at the time. That was 31+ years ago. On that day in 1987, everything changed.

@JohnINFP some people are fascinated by insects but most would not want them on their body (I sure wouldn't). On the other hand, some people are terrified (Arachnophobia). With so many beautiful things to adorn your body why go for shock value? ....that wears thin pretty quick. BUT then again - it's your body so do what you like

A giant Hulk tattoo would be shocking to some. But when I do something special, I like to go big. the shock value would be there. I would be doing it because Hulk is my favorite superhero. I always wated to be him. ?

@JohnINFP I’d rather ‘go big’ in other areas of life than spoil my body; would opt for a picture of a superhero than a tattoo but you do what you want. ?
