Hell, that's what it looked like when I was a sick kid in the 60s!

@ProudMary I do remember though the Price is Right was on back then but not quite as poofy

@ProudMary I believe Bill Cullen was the host, he sat on a chair a bit awkward because he was a victim of Polio when he was young.

@ProudMary He hid it really good. Mel Brooks had made fun of him and the way he walked till someone told him he had Polio, he apologized later.

Holy crap, my parents had that sofa when I was a kid. ?

My parents also had that sofa for way too many years.

Don’t forget the Tupperware puke bowl..

I have the yellow Tupperware puke bowl that we used growing up at my house now, and no one will use it for anything but puke. My 15 yo told me a few weeks ago "people have been puking in that bowl for 30 years, you can't put mashed potatoes in it."

I was a child of the 90s, this however, looks very familiar. Except we used 7up instead.

Well, instead of Canada Dry, it would be Vernors. That's Michigan medicine right there.

Ohio medicine also, at least it was in my family.

@JenBeberstein Yes, Vernors came in handy every now and then.

@JenBeberstein unless someone brought up some Ale8 from Kentucky! That was the ginger ale order of preference in my house Ale8, Vernors then Canada Dry.

@Minta79 I have not heard of Ale8. If it still around I'd love to try it. That's why I like local bottlers like Faygo in the Detroit area, well most likely in the Midwest, because you can't find them outside their distribution range. So when you travel, you get to experience something new.

@Captain747ex it's still around. Some stores carry it here in Ohio, now, but you can get it almost anywhere in KY.

@Minta79 I'll have to give it a try if I ever pass that way.

I had some sick break dancing moves in the 80s. Does that count?

Yep. That’s it.

Yes, but my mom gave me 7 Up instead of ginger ale, so I really dislike 7 Up due to the association with being sick. I only recently discovered ginger ale which I LOVE! I'm so glad ginger ale wasn't ruined for me.

I was sick as a child in the 60's and 70's, but not much of this was different.

I was a mom in the 80s. My oldest was born in 84, the second in 88. Never, ever, ever have I used ginger ale. Carbonation doesn't like me, never gave it to my kids. I don't think I've ever used a complete tub of Vicks Vaporub. Rarely bought saltines, or chicken noodle soup, and didn't watch daytime TV. I'm out of step!

Based on the pictures. ...yes

3

Yep. And I hate Campbell's chicken noodle soup now. Vile.

@ProudMary Homemade is awesome. Canned? Yet to find one I like.

I can't have Campbell's soup now without getting a headache from all the crap in it. I make my own, either that or use Trader Joe's.

@bleurowz I agree SO much! I don't know what it is about canned chicken noodle soup but it always tastes like the can to me no matter what brand.

3

I hated VapoRib - still do.

Loved it.

That's really "Old School". I'm a child of the 50s.
Only difference was the TV was B&W with a different game show.

2

My parents never used VapoRub, they believed that it would case pneumonia. They also believed that being cold and/or wet was what made me get sick. The rest of the pictures were definitely part of my life.

2

I was born in the 80s. As a 90s kid, this is true, except we had 7up and Campho-Phenique. LOL

2

In the 80's I was a Sick Puppy, making Babies.

@ProudMary So you are part of my crew!

2

I was sick all the time. My stomach acted up every morning during the school week but promptly calmed down an hour after the bus left. 😛

@ProudMary
Hahahaha! Yellow fever was exactly what I suffered from!

2

Yep, down to that exact same couch ? im sure they suck but i want another one! Haha

2

My mother made us take this horrible pill every time one of us sneezed.

2

That looks awful! LOL
The VapoRub is familiar....but we had ginger tea...homemade soup...and I recall oyster crackers?
The couch is hideous! LOL my "mother" was an interior designer...so that never would have been permitted in the house!
I remember being sick was a good excuse to read books all day while in bed. Back then, the only TV was in the living room. If we were sick we were confined to our rooms so as not to spread the germs.

You left out Jello!

Dude, yes! I still keep a tub of Vick's around at all times. Put it on your feet, chest, back and under your nose. No matter what's wrong, that'll fix it.

i was not a child in the 1980s. i was sick, though. it wasn't with anything those items would have helped, but i make my own chicken soup at any rate, and while i enjoy a good cracker, the kind pictured would not have pleased me. these days, almost anything i would use vaporub for i'd treat with tiger balm instead! but we haven't been in the '80s for a long time 🙂) half of the '80s i spent in japan at any rate. things are different there!
