History does not record anywhere at any time a work of art that has any rational basis. Aesthetic enhancement is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to unadorned objective reality without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a creative hobby and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it.

History does not at any time record a religion that has any scientific basis. However, the reason for religion is perfectly rational from the subjective reality of the believer. In fact the "Religion is a crutch...." statement proves this point. It could also be argued that in spite of it's flaws, theology could also provide a bases for an irrational belief in self sacrifice for a greater good. Think about the type of motivation the human race is going to need to face the challenges the future holds due to rational, libertarian, every man for himself free market economics. Without a great deal of commitment to a greater good an economic collapse is inevitable. How will we spend our time once the robotics era truly begins? Compassion, empathy and a dedicated belief in the intrinsic value of humanity is the only thing that will prevent catastrophe. For the less educated parts of the world population who are unlikely to achieve intellectual excellence any time soon, a new type of humanist based religion could possibly hold the key to a peaceful, transition to our new,physically idle reality. Of course if anybody has a better idea, I'm open to it, but given the speed that things are changing, the answer better come quickly.
