Most of the time when I find a Bible in a hotel room, people have already just listed chapter and verse that they like just inside the cover.

So I add the chapter and verse about how to eat your children to the list.

I don't mean to sound crass here.
But it's just a book.It won't bite you.
You don't have to read it, just shove it in a drawer or something.

Part of our band and a couple of friends found ourselves in jail in Wichita Falls, Texas one night. The only thing to use for toilet paper was a Bible. It seemed appropriate.

The only time I ever opened the drawer to get that bible was when I didn't have joint paper - the first and last page of that book work - though not the smartest thing to use. After I ripped out the paper the sucker went back into the drawer and I didn't give it another thought.

I have never found a bible in a hotel and I've been to a few. May be it's a Canadian thing.

Condoms should also be provided. Would also point out about all of the Priests recently charged for sexual abuse, and I'm not harping on the Roman Catholics because this is also as rampant in other noted Religious denominations as well as Political Organizations , Corporate Lobbyist whom most are from the Pharmaceutical Concerns. I'm talking overall hygiene and safety that should be a prime concern. They give them out in Hight Schools for free.

I have to travel a lot for work and this is something that drives me insane. I am in.

Just a heads up: if you don’t want a bible in your hotel room, I suggest staying away from Marriott. They always have a bible and a Book of Mormon. Most hotels will remove the Bible before check in if requested in advance.

I wonder if putting the bible in the trash can would send a message. Or stick it in the ice machine, or toss it into the dirty laundry bin in the hallway. Hotels don't buy those bibles... some do-gooder religious group generally donates them, I believe. If they just keep disappearing that may partially solve the problem. Or maybe that's why it's the most "popular" book in the world... most get donated and thrown out. Yeah, I'm offended too, but maybe it's time to act. That bible sitting there never seems to keep those so-inclined from having quick afternoon trysts with their workmates there, regardless of how "religious" they claim to be.

I usually hide the darn thing somewhere they'll really have to search to find.

Bibles in hotel rooms do not bother me. I wish that the practice were re-instated, if only to annoy the followers of "the prophet".

You've only scratched the surface of the offensive and absurd things written in the Bible. Still, I find it an interesting (although thoroughly muddled) presentation of what some folks were thinking in the past. Also, there is some history to be gleaned from the Bible. Pontius Pilate really was the prefect of Judaea from 26-36 ce. (Although, according to Philo and Josephus, he was very different than he is portrayed in the Bible.) Finally, if you are ever having trouble falling asleep in a hotel room, pull that Gideon's Bible out of the drawer and try reading from Genesis 1:1. You will wake refreshed in the morning, after full night's sleep!

I leave Gideon at the front desk, in the waste basket or between the toilet seats among other crafty messages of contempt.

when i find a bible in a hotel room, even in a drawer, i carry it out to the front desk and explain that it is offensive to me. it is invariably a christian bible, of course.

I always either hide the bible somewhere in the room to be discovered later, or I use it as a door stop. It makes a great doorstop for those bathroom doors that have a mind of their own. It's just my way of saying, "I won't use this as you intended and I don't revere it."

I simply don't care because the bible isn't true. I do believe that it would be offensive for employees to refuse to take bibles out of rooms, though.

Gideon's bibles always used to be present in hotel rooms here but normally in a drawer in the bedside cabinet. However the last couple of times I have stayed in a hotel there was no bible so perhaps attitudes are changing.r
