What is your Idea about the "SUPREME BEING"? I know to my self that there is something out there. That cause our existence and other things but? Is it enough that we are just living for no reason?

The answer, if any, to your last question depends on what you mean by "reason." (i like sushi because it tastes good.) people use the word to imply someone's will, and if this is what you mean, then you have to say whose. other people use the word to mean "cause." (the reason the lamp fell is that someone bumped into it -- but it has nothing to do with the will of the lamp, or necessarily of the bumper.) assuming that someone who doesn't believe in a supreme being has no reason to live is not logical. on what basis do you make this assumption? the willpower of a supreme being is the only reason one should live? or is that the only cause of our living? i don't buy that. as for what DOES cause our living, i am interested in scientific matters but i do not pretend to be well enough versed in them to be able to explain such things to you, nor vain enough to pretend i understand them completely whether or not i can express them cogently. my inability in no way reflects on the way things work. things chug along with me just fine, did so before i was born and will, i trust, continue to chug along after i am gone. even if NO ONE knew how the universe worked, even in part, that would not be a reason to just grab an ancient belief system and cling to it just to have something in hand.

Science has demonstrated the existence of forces that have a universal effect, such as a "something" that causes the expansion of the universe which they've given the temporary name of "dark energy". There's also gravity which is no longer thought of as a force, but that which we call gravity nevertheless is everywhere and so that shows that there is another "something" that permeates all of the universe. No known force or phenomena could be called a being by any stretch of the imagination, nor could anything be described as "supreme".

The idea that the universe could begin with the existence of a "supreme being", the most evolved and capable being in the universe is exactly backwards to what we observe in this universe, where complex arises from simple.

How do you "know"?
Prove it.

Are u kidding.I would call it an inferior being .war, disease, death destruction, filth, hunger ,poverty torture ,crime, corruption, something is definitely wrong. This is not good work.If this is the best that a supreme being can do I am not impressed .So if there is a supreme being I think most reasonable people might agree that he's at least incompetent and maybe just maybe doesn't give a shit.George Carlin

You don't need to believe in a Supreme Being for life to have meaning. That's a false assumption that Theists make because they feel that THEIR life has no meaning without a God.

2

If there were a supreme being, it/she/he is infinitely above us in it/her/his evolutionary development. Can we humans be flattered by the worship of a bacteria? And do you honestly think that the purpose of our lives is only made manifest through the recognition and adoration of some unseen, unheard and indefinable entity, with which we share nothing in common? That is, unless of course you believe the anthropomorphized fictions of religion?

ok then

We are the only ones who can give our life meaning. We are only living for no reason if we have that mindset, if you mean by “ no reason” the fact that we believe that our lives end when we die and we don’t go on to an afterlife, then surely that makes it all the more essential that we imbue our lives with as much meaning as possible. Our destinies are what we make them, so go out and live your life to the full, it’s the only one you will get.

There is No Suprene Being....just missed that bit out, but I’m sure you guessed I would say that!

I believe there's an energy that connects all living things. But I wouldn't call it a supreme being.

All living things are part of what might be described as the supreme being because life is what separates the animate from the inanimate. Being animated beings we can interact with the world around us and doing so is an end in itself. As for the Holy Moly, Bearded Old Bastard in the Sky concept of a supreme being, well that's just a bit silly wouldn't you say? What sort of being could be defined as supreme if it spent all it's time making flawed creations, blaming the creations for being fucked up, hovering about hoping to catch some of these creations jerking off or eating shrimp and then burning them all in hell for eternity, because, well - SHRIMP! Everybody loves shrimp, completely wrong to make such a delicious critter and then tell everyone 'You Can't Have Any'.
So get out there and interact with your environment, fornicate, have fun and most importantly - Remember to Eat the Shrimp.

You were created as a fully functioning thinking being and a product of your parents. To function as a member of earths grand plan which is forever ever changing. You have the choice of loving yourself and your surroundings or taking the steps to effect change in a loving positive way that will benefit yourself and your fellow man! If we all can learn to respect each other, our personal beliefs and the earth we are bound to we will find everything we seek!

There is no supreme being. There are innumerable things "out there", but none of them are "supreme beings". We may yet find other, wondrous, unimaginable life "out there", but no matter how large or wondrous. they will have no more influence over this universe as a whole than ourselves. And no less, either.

I think there might be something out there. I'm not as certain as you are. It might be a cosmic consciousness, as per Eastern thought, and that probably means we are also part of that eternal consciousness. I have no idea what that could mean in terms of morality.

There is no supreme being.. unless I count myself. I’m pretty awesome! There’s nothing “out there” but the wonders of proven science instead of fictional nonsense. There are endless reasons for thriving. I’ve spent 25 years as an open heart RN, hands on parent, endless community volunteer. You will find your path to fulfillment.

He is still showing remnants of his former faith. The idea that there is nothing but our own inner strength is still too scary for some....they need to believe there is something beyond self.

1

Who? You mean Thor, or Zeus, or Flying Spaghetti Monster, or?

1

OK, what is out there? Why is it supreme and why is it a being? Maybe this line of thinking comes about because you do not have all the answers and that is not acceptable to you. The preachers say "and do you know what god did then?" I have news, preacher. You don't know either. Nobody knows so you just make it up.

1

It has to be yourself. Otherwise who else is going to ask the question "what is out there?" if not you? I have quit wondering.

3

So you think there is a difference between 'knowing' and 'knowing to oneself'? In philosophy knowledge is generally defined as justified, true, believe. Please tell me how the latter concept of knowledge is not worthless.
What are your justifications for:

  • believing there is something out there
  • believing that something caused existence
  • believing it caused other things
Even if there really was a "supreme being" how would that being give you meaning in any way? The only meaning we have is one we give to ourselves. What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of impact to you want to have in this world? Do you want to help create a better world? Those are the questions you should ask yourself. Not "oh supreme being please tell me what to do!"
