I am a rather ungirly girl and I carry a tiny pocket knife. That tiny "watch" pocket is perfect for that knife. And yes, the original use for the tiny pocket is to fit your pocketwatch back in the day before wrist watches.

I was told it was a key pocket but I don't see 2.2 lbs of anything fitting in there.
I thought they were for a single condom.
@Sheannutt I got married to some man once and he had that 'ticket' pocket and when it came time for the registrar to ask for the ring no one could find it and every woman in the place was pulling off their wedding rings to offer us - He eventually pulled his ticket pocket up so hard to get inside to root around that his fly burst open and everyone laughed and was very coarse about waiting till later...
The registrar was annoyed at the laughter and it was pretty funny all round .then, the groom realised that he had indeed given the ring to his brother to look after - The man I was marrying had a stutter and all the commotion was making it worse, so it ended up being the funniest wedding I have ever been to.
It's called a "change pocket" They re to hold loose coins (change).
@Sheannutt Think of it as a denim bank vault for copper reserves
@HippieChick58 Seriously? A watch pocket? When we can hardly get a quarter in and out of it?
It may have started that way once upon a time, but now they call it a change pocket for a reason. The size probably shrunk and there is nothing else (other than loose coins) that could fit into it... until they came out with flash drives.
It's where you find things you've been looking for for the last few weeks.
Back when a quarter would get you something.
