Here's an interesting proposition (which another post has prompted me to write):
You have a relative who is seriously ill so the family ask you to pray for him/her.
The relative has to undergo a major medical procedure so everyone is praying for the patient.
The patient pulls through and is cured so it is a miracle and thanks be to God (the Surgeon and medical science didn't do anything as it is a miracle).
ALTERNATIVELY:
We all pray for the patient but the patient dies on the operating table so close family decide to sue the Surgeon for medical negligence as it is clearly the Surgeon's fault and nothing to do with God.
HOWEVER:
The close family also decide to litigate against you as clearly you didn't pray hard enough so you are guilty of contributory negligence.
So an inverse of 'heads I win, tails you lose' so that 'heads I lose, tails you win' is the outcome of not praying hard enough in respect of possible litigation?????
CONCLUSION:
Theists should stop praying for people as when their prayers don't work they could be sued for contributory negligence.

(I've posted this in Silly, Random & Fun as it is not a serious proposition - BUT you never know!!!!!!)

I have never done the following so I cannot verify its effectiveness, but I would ask the family to sit with their eyes closed (for focus only) and concentrate on the ill person. People take it in Random turns to recall an incident involving the ill person , or an anecdote, or a favorite 'anything' about the subject and try to spark a discussion about what value that person has been in life or what would make that person want to live longer by valuing what they value. In this way you cut out god but do what prayer is trying to achieve,so no miracles , nothing may happen as a result of what you do. but something practical and real may happen - like spark the desire to open a photo album or just relate another forgotten[ by most] story. Something good emerges only when you do not give up

1.They cannot sue you for "not praying"....just ridiculous!
2. You could offer to do something productive, like mow their lawn, care for their pets, clean their house, shop,
etc etc instead of useless "praying", SO much more helpful!
3. To make a good analogy, IMO, it needs to be more close to actuality........

I see it but how would anyone know if you prayed? I simply do not believe televangelists or politicians who say they are praying for you. God's plan is in place. Just imagine a written prayer with a blank name inside it. You simply pick the type of prayer needed and fill in the name. It should work as good as any.

When all is good, give God the credit.
Satan (& humans) get the blame for all "bad" things.

Simple enough......until the lawyers are involved.
(Then it'll be their fault too......only god wins here)

That's because thesists don't really believe the stuff they say. It's just habit and conditioning, but if they really believed that stuff they'd never go to the hospital or doctor..just pray.
