When your first name is different, people naturally do not interact with you. Mainly because they don't want to to offend you and mispronounce it.
Now, I'm naturally an introvert ...so it leads to awkward silence.

My first name is no issue. My last name.....OOOhhhhh boy. I just pronounce it in a Canadianized way so I don't have to explain why the "j" should be pronounced "y". A lot of people think I'm either Japanese or Hispanic (or Filipina with a Spanish last name).

Also, the people who read your name, and make assumptions of where you are from, what nationality you are, or what language you speak.

You got all that from a name?
?

Story of my life ?.. Seriously if you are having a kid at least make sure it is obvious how to say it when read on paper. You may think it is unique or creative but your child may not be the type that wants to have an awkward moment and a conversation about their name every time someone new reads their name badge.

Or maybe they simply cannot remember the name and don't want to let on that they forgot. (?)

I was made fun of when I was you because of my name being that of a popular cartoon character, however I grew to embrace it, because it made me different from my peers and it sounded cool in some aspects

Oh I love my name. But people sure butcher it sometimes

I had a father get upset because I pronounced his child's name the way it was spelled.

I would fail as a school teacher.
All my kids have very traditional names to avoid that disaster

@Nichole765
I have to admit as I was walking away, I muttered under my breath that he needed to 'learn to spell'.

@PhoebeCat admittedly, I gave the kids two middle names. So that was an issue once or twice.

"Nicholette" is a great name. My name is "Matt" and it's boring as shit. I can understand that having an unusual name has its problems, but I'd rather have that than a boring name any day. I'm not going to forget any time soon that your name is Nicholette, but you'll forget Matt by this afternoon.

I hearya. My first name is Jennifer. Like about 70 percent of the female population of this country.

Is it true that people don't want to talk to you because they can't pronounce your name?

Mine is fairly easy not to be mispronounced.

Nichole is not that different. Try being called something like Kelvin

Ah . But my first name isn't Nichole. I use Nichole because it's easier than hearing someone butcher my first name.

@Nichole765 Oh sorry what is it?

@273kelvin Nicholette.

@Nichole765 Oh thats just the bite sized version. Just as scrumptious but more petite.

@Gooniesnvrdie Its called celsius now but I get your point

@Gooniesnvrdie Its not called centigrade anymore its celsius.

People seem to make a lot of assumptions about me when they find out my first name. Fuck them

This happens often as you get older.
