I want to thank @Affinis for giving me this idea (after reading your thread on Lorraine Hansberry).

What popular culture can you think of that criticizes religion; specifically, I'm thinking of music, poetry, novels, movies, tv, etc.

  • Tori Amos (singer) is highly critical of religion (her father was a preacher)

  • Sharon Olds (poet) (she wrote a great poem about the pope's penis)

I am interested to see who you can add.

#media, #pop culture, #music, #books, #movies, #poetry, #tv, #atheists, #religion, #novels

Satirist Mark Russell, the Simpsons cartoon, anything by Seth MacFarlane, even Harry Potter, albeit in code, muggles being symbols of intolerant majority bigots --aka fundamentalists.

But I don't think about religion at all..not interested in mocking it, arguing with people about it, or reading about it.

I see religion as something the powerful use to control people, and worshipers use for coping with life, having been brainwashed since childhood.
