Hey everyone! I’m brand new to this site/app and curious how many out there have a background similar to mine.

I grew up a very conservative, evangelical fundamentalist. My home church in Texas was southern baptist, and I moved to Chicago in 1999 to attend an ultra-conservative Bible college called Moody Bible Institute. It was at Moody that I went through my deconversion. It had been my plan to become a Bible translator, and ironically, it was intense study of the Bible in Greek and Hebrew that intensified my doubts and played a major role in my loss of faith.

I’m always curious to talk with people who have had a big shift from faith to disbelief and hear about what the impetuses for change were.

Welcome Scott. I had enough science background to realize that most Old Testament stories had to be nonsense. For example the Universe was created in 13,000,000,000 years, not 6 days.
