I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness until I was 13 and deemed old enough to choose, you can see how that turned out. 😉 Xmas always held a certain mystique to me because I never experienced it first hand until I was 18 by which point it seemed rather silly to me. All the little rituals that friends observed because they held personal significance going back to their childhood meant a big goose egg to me. I do like the winter solstice as a seasonal event but besides that it's a big zippo to me.

@Ostopal I got beatings for doing shit and getting caught, same as everyone else. 😉 That JW cult is like a baptism by fire, it either consumes you or it tempers you like steel.

I Really Loved that I grew up in a place where santa claus was a Foreign Advertisement Plot with No Connection to the Nativity... and because of that... we received Gifts not only on Dec 25th but also on January 6th... Three Kings Day. So we got the Garbage on xmas and the Big Ticket Item on Three Kings!!!! I got Married on a xmas day... divorced on a Independence day and My First Born was Born on Three Kings Eve.

Yes, the nativity set is out under the tree, I have my Christmas carols ready to play, I’ve laid out my suit in preparation for midnight mass at the local Catholic Church and I’m busy discarding all those blasphemous secular Christmas cards that I receive that don’t mention baby Jesus. Guess I’m prepared!

Yes Xmas. The time of year when we gather round the tree, look up and tell, "I don't care who you are fat mam, get your reindeer off my roof " !

It's doubtful.

i am never prepared for christmas. i hate christmas. i feel overwhelmed and ignored and invisible. i've never been christian and never will be christian, and i'm not even that much of a capitalist. i'm a jewish atheist in the middle of celebrating chanukah, and i have to hear christmas songs everywhere!

Happy Channukah xx

I don't hate xmas as I don't really honor it. Though considering it first shows it's ugly head around here in August (!), by now it's REALLY old ....

Enjoy your invisibility !

@evergreen lol i don't honor it either; it is not necessary to honor it to hate it. alas i do NOT enjoy my invisibility, which is my point. i HATE my invisibility. it is part of why i hate christmas.

@Amisja thank you kindly! one of our cats almost walked right into the menorah but we were able to stop him from setting himself ablaze. i guess he liked chanukah a bit too much!
