I was never told I had to find god to get sober. I was told as long as I was willing to accept that something, anything, was more powerful than myself I could get sober. Easy.... The universe. Gravity. The internal combustion engine. Nature. A door knob. There are lots of things more powerful than me that have nothing to do with an all powerful imaginary sky fairy dude. I'm sorry you had that experience in recovery but whatever keeps you off the sauce is far more important than the religious aspect of AA. Take what works & leave the rest (personalities included) There is no one fix that works for everyone. Having faith in something doesn't have to be religious but it does require an open mind.

The majority of my friends are loving, kind Christians and two are ministers. They accept and love me for who I am. My friends never hassle me about being an atheist.

Living in rural Eastern Washington, I wouldn't have friends if I discriminated against Christians. My friends are fellow Democrats who care about helping people in need.

I choose to surround myself with positive people.

I have faith.

I have faith that if I plant a garden and care for it right, plants will grow.

I have faith that if I'm respectful to others, more people will treat me with respect than if I act like an asshole.

I have faith that the sun will rise the morning and set in the evening.

I have faith that it will be hotter in July and colder in January.

Everybody has faith. It makes a difference what you have faith in.

Having faith in an invisible being who favors you over everyone else to save you from the bad things you do tends to be problematic.

Achieving and maintaining sobriety is no small thing. Be proud! AA just uses religion to fill in the hole left by addiction, and that doesn't fix anything. Strength of will is so much more effective, as I'm sure you are well aware.

I have no use for sins, in fact sins just create more hippocrites and guilt. Sin is painful feeling that's a mix of shame, regret, self-hate, guilt and dishonor. These are some of the most miserable feelings of all.

Just make adjustments in life rather than nonsense feeling of sins.

There is many confusing concepts between Religion and something of a spiritual experience.

you might be surprised how much the Bible agrees with you here; there is even a parable that shows you as "accepted" in your pov, the parable of the Two Sons. Also, "blind faith" is not advanced in Scripture, as many would like to imagine, and i am not qualified but the Abarim have a good argument for the Scientific Method in Scripture, [abarim-publications.com], you might understand this one better than i did too, [abarim-publications.com]

We all have some level of addictiveness in our personalities, it's a chemical reaction in our brains but we also have willpower that allows us to overcome those chemically driven cravings. No imaginary friend required.
