Has anyone here written their own obituary? over the years i've noticed some quite humorous self-written obits.
i thought of mine about 6 yrs ago when i was treated for 2 serious cancers within 1 yr.
it's probably not that humorous to most people & on the morbid side. but at least it would've been real & true.
anyway, almost daily we read obits to the affect:
"After a courageous battle with cancer Joe Blow was called home by jesus to be with his mom & dad, his sister june & his 4 faithful basset hounds...etc..."
mine would have been short & sucinct if the cancers were past stage 3:
"after a cowardly skirmish with cancer Jim said 'fuck this shit' and killed himself."
wasn't sure where to put this one. it doesn't really come under "health & happiness" so i went with this category.

Cancer made me care less about dieing. It will happen to all of us. We should just accept that we really didn't make much difference in the short time on this planet. No matter how rich, smart, pretty, we all end the same.

No, I have stated very clearly I am to have no funeral of any kind, my body can be striped of any usable bits, the rest can go in a furnace, any cash that would have been spent on a funeral can go in to a fund behind the bar in a pub and anyone left who gives a shit about me can get drunk at my expense.
The last thing I want is fawning insincere platitudes and lies about my life which has on the whole been an enjoyable waste of time.

somehow the phrase -enjoyable waste of time... would seem great on a stone.... or the side of an urn whatever

lol... he said he had nothing better to do....

that shouldn't prevent you from writing your own obit.
we're not talking about eulogies.

I need to do that. It sounds like fun. I'm constantly updating my bio ... or at least every few years. Adding places I've exhibited or curated exhibitions, etc.
I've also written my suicide note several times. I too have the Big C. I also make lists of artwork I bequith to different people upon my death.
The obit might be the next step. Thanks for the suggestion.

My father did, chose his own pics and everything. It was interesting as one of the pics was from his childhood I had never seen before and didn’t know what the significance was but clearly it was to him.

this makes me think about the preferences I might have at my funeral....
no praying and no saving and no hymns etc..... really I'm thinking more along the lines of a pancake buffet.

if i had any friends left i'd like there to be some good scotch & craft beer that i could be toasted with.
