I make faux ones with no butter, if I have bread around. I usually only have bread if I bake. Toast the bread in the oven to brown. Put cheese in two slices and wrap in foil or place in a covered pan and put back in the oven to melt.

OK, divided by a common culinary delight. Why do you need a pan to grill?

But if I'm having cheese on toast, under the grill, I butter the toast before putting the cheese on 🙂
