That's one you won't be hearing about on the news, especially the locals. They still swoon and take every opportunity to shove god and Christianity in your face. I was watching a report a few nights ago about the Alabama tornado destruction and they were interviewing a woman who was going on and on, thanking Jesus for saving her and her family. I was lime, "WTH?" What about all the other poor people killed? We're they not godly enough? ARGH! The logic of children.
Anyway, enough ranting. Happy Atheist day!!!

"I was lime" Lol.. 'Like'

I would go to that parade! Who do we write? I bet it could be done.

Ugh damn Austinites ruin everything. Glad I left. Everyone wants a spotlight. There is no “Christian day” “Muslim day” or “Jew day” (as well as the 1000+ other religions out there) those are religious holidays celebrated by individuals and exploited by corporations.

Seajay88 Level 4 Mar 12, 2019

@artistrobfuller technically this is a nation founded on Christianity. Just another religious crusade.

I can't believe that I can't believe in a sky daddy...

Actually, I can.

I have hear they moved the day away fron April 1st. I don't understand the logic in changing the day. Then again, atheist change defination of atheism trying to make it sound more logical like agnostic.
Has anyone thought to invite God to the celebration, maybe she would show up for this new change from April 1st?

Antifred Level 7 Mar 12, 2019

@artistrobfuller i understand atheist semantics to attempt to have their "definition " to be logical. Atheism is not logical.. God is not my name, I really do exist. There are others, but most people don't know shit from shinola. There are those willy wanka and Harry Potter style movies that portray ideal of what people want but thats not what people get. As you would reject Jesus style god from a sort of apparence but do not much understand biblical text yourself.

I checked to holiday calendar apps, I ain't seeing it 🤨 national day of reason is the first Thursday in May 😉

oldFloyd Level 7 Mar 12, 2019

@artistrobfullfer from what I have found about it is new to the calendar, and about damn time!

I had no idea we had a special day.

1

The day before my birthday.

Jolanta Level 8 Mar 12, 2019

Let me wish you a happy birthday now! Will forget later! Lol

2

Oh good one. Will the agnostics get their noses out of joint, or does it include them as well I wonder.

Second thought, no, they can stay away. This one's ours. They join all our other parties.

I'll be probably doing laundry and cleaning house unless it's nice out then I'll probably work on my shop. Gotta prep it for new wiring and fill some gaps in the concrete pad.

I have never heard of this before. Neat!

Does anyone know why 3/23 was chosen? And who made the decision? Based on the video someone posted in this thread, it looks like the Atheist Republic and/or an atheist group in Austin is leading the way.

dkp93 Level 7 Mar 11, 2019

I’ll take a stab.

Other than the obvious fact that 3 and 23 are prime (making the fraction irreducible) the math works out to be:

3/23=
0.1304347826086956521739

The decimal part repeats and is 22 digits in length. The factors of 22 are 2 and 11. If we are to agree that 911=emergency, 411=information and 311=a rock band from the 90s, then it’s safe to say that 211=atheism.

That’s most likely why they chose 3/23.

April 1st has always been illogical atheist day for all i can remember.

@indirect76 so math is based on logic. Not sure if atheism is founded on logic (as there is no evidence one way or another, even evolution is still a theory).

Not sure I see reasoning in this mathemati conclusion you provided.

@Seajay88 Some things will never be known, like the square root of a million, but my maths is irrefutable.

@Seajay88 I would say it has more logic than religion. Not that there's a lot of logic in it.

@indirect76 the square root of a million is known...as for your math, it’s based on rounded intergers and presumptions. So it’s more of a theory, that’s attempts at using math as justification, like Christian Numerologists.

@ronnie40355 ...your statement is quite agreeable ? religion and logic don’t even stand in the same dimension.

@Seajay88 Gödel showed that the square root of a million is unknowable. Yes, the paper was made during his last few paranoid years, but it holds true none the less.

All integers are rounded, so I’m not sure what you mean there. If I had to guess, I’d say it has something to do with the dislike of the band 311. Perhaps one of theirs songs played on the radio while a traumatic event occurred?

@indirect76 I can’t speak for your trauma, but what does your dislike for the band 311 have to do with your atheist numerology? Also what is 1,000x1,000? If I had to guess, the only square with no root is an indirect 76?

@Seajay88 I don’t know what 1,000x1,000 is, but it isn’t a number. It has an x in it, which is a letter.

By God, that is good news

Nice one.

5

Me too! Can’t wait! I’m going to... uh... do the same thing I do every day.

7

Around my house, every day is atheist day. We celebrate life before death. 😊 Usually with wine. 🍷

zeuser Level 8 Mar 11, 2019

@artistrobfuller We are legion. 😁

I do the same.

4

I would like to create an International Agnostics Day but:

I'm not sure it's a good idea
I'm between two minds about it

brentan Level 8 Mar 11, 2019

Me too. I used to be schizophrenic but now I am in two minds

There just is not enough understanding of the evidence provided to say wheither or not.

@Antifred there is a national meat stuffed intestine day. So “whether or not” something should exist is irrelevant “why?” is the appropriate question.

We have booze.
We need excuses to consume it.
This is the American way at least.

2

I suppose this be a thing for some.
But I've never been a believer my whole life.
Every day on that un-belief is fairly the same.
JMHO

5

I didn't know that was a thing!

Kat Level 5 Mar 11, 2019

Me either!
