I don't like the sticker, but this man being arrested for it is scary.
If this is actually a crime, then the cop was in the right to enforce it. I have trouble believing it is. There are too many problems with it.
First, how does Florida law define "derogatory"? It's a word that by definition seems to necessitate a subjective determination. What makes the phrase "I eat ass" different from "Jesus loves you", or "Vote for Hilary" under the law? The main issue the officer seems to be taking with this sticker is that he personally doesn't like it.
Secondly, even if this is some violation of a misdemeanor law, surely it doesn't warrant arrest! A citation is all this is worth, if even that.
This officer is clearly on his own personal moral crusade. It's ridiculous. Florida didn't even think it was worthy of prosecution. Next, it'll be a jailable offense to have the wrong flag on your car.
I don't like the sticker. I think it's rude, and I sure as shit don't want my little boy or niece reading it. But Freedom of Speech also extends to speech you don't personally like. If there is a petition somewhere to rally against this, I'll happily put my signature on the top line.
