A couple of times, in the movie, "Religulous," Atheist, Bill Maher, is asked, "What if you're wrong?" How would you reply to such a question?

I'm confident that I'm doing the best I can with the evidence I have.

I would say it doesn't matter. I live my life to the best of my ability regardless of whether or not there's a dude in the sky who cares whether or not I have sex with the right kind of people and wear the right kind of clothing.

By the way, I just binge-watched Bart Ehrman's Youtube channel while working on a project. I highly recommend his lectures on the bible. Once people understand how the bible was written, they will never go back to whatever belief their parents convinced them of

Bart Ehrmann freed me from religious slavery.

I have told Christians that if there was a heaven and hell, I do NOT want to spend eternity with people like them. When they ask me what I mean, I tell them I do not want to spend eternity with liars, cheats, pedophiles, rapists especially when they only ask for forgiveness when they're dying.

I have realized a long time ago that Hell will most like be filled with people who have done nothing but survived the bullshit "Christians" threw at them.

If "I'm wrong" and I've lived a life NOT devoted to god, Why would I not go to heaven?

Even a promise of "hell" for "unbelievers" implies a life after death.

What if they're wrong....and there's just "nothing"?

Then all that worshiping, paying tithes, time and money to support the #religulous will have been a waste.

....and don't give me that "god is watching" thing.

Hitler conscientiously worked to kill millions. Do you think because he said "I believe" and "forgive me father" that he got in to heaven and the Jews he exterminated didn't?

Oh...and in the words of Penn Jillette;

What's to keep an atheist from killing, robbing, and murdering?

Nothing.

That's why an Atheist is more morally upright than a #religulous person;

We do good because it feels good. It feels right.

The #Religulous only do good because "god tells them to".

When confronted with two Jehovah's Witnesses

asking him if he wanted to know the secret to living forever

Jim Morrison said

"The secret to living forever? Why the fuck would I want to live forever?"

Science will eventually answer the great religious questions without hocus pocus and magic or a group of Mythological Books that were written by Bronze age men trying to explain the world around them.

I have been asked by christians. My answer:
Assuming that you are right, and the god of your bible will be reigning in the afterlife; I will gladly choose death over eternally, mindlessly praising a megalomaniacal monster.

I think eternity in what christians describe as heaven would be maddeningly tedious. Hell and eventual nonexistence would be far better.

I would say, it is ok, my belief gives me peace, it works for me and I am comfortable with it because it does not hurt anyone and it is not imposed on me. I made this decision as a free thinker.

1

Well, oops.

Richard Dawkins gave the most brilliant answer to that question some years back. It was perfect. Any atheist who doesn't know or hasn't heard it isn't fit to call themselves an atheist.

The best answer in Maher's doc, in my view, was when some religious Johnny tried that old religious emotional blackmail trick of saying that
nothing but religion fills the 'empty spiritual void inside' and Maher cut him of with a "Well can I at least try?" Took the wind out of that religious dude's sails.

I really like BM.

Nice no true Scotsman fallacy.

If I am wrong, and there is a god, then I will definitely be sent to Hell, either immediately upon my death or after leading the second rebellion in Heaven against the monster named "God". I don't expect I'd win, but sometimes losing is better than winning, especially when you show others that they don't have to suffer in silence, bowing down to a monster like cowards. You know... the same way I live my life now.

I do not believe there is such a thing as Hell. So he won't be going to Hell. Actually, it doesn't matter. Whatever there is, is or isn't, as an agnostic I recognize the unknown. We're supposed to focus on the here and now: Be kind and fair to each other, appreciate our gifts including the gift of life and the planet that we need to take care of. What always struck me is that in churches they are told to be kind to other Christians. What about the rest of us? Why aren't they told to take care of the planet and all living creatures?

I will be very surprised.

And if I'm right

( accidently hit submit) "...that change as needed, and really not a very good track record of good behavior, then I wouldn't want him/her/it around me anyway. I'll do without, thanks."

"I'm not wrong"

I require evidence to accept things. If there is a god, he made me this way. It's out of my hands.

1

What if I am not?

1

But I'm not 😉

1

There are no invisible, magical beings living in the sky keeping score on what we believe nor do we LIVE for eternity after we DIE. We're not wrong. The claims of religion are objectively ridiculous.

1

Now that would be a first. 🙂

If Homer Simpson can figure it out I'm sure you can too.
