I found this site thru Facebook. "Outed"? This ain't a cult, ya know........

I found it through a Facebook ad, and it was promoted as both a community and dating site. That was in 2017 and I haven't seen an ad there since then. While most people were interested in the dating aspect, I think an equal number were just thrilled to find someplace they could openly express their views among peers. In what sense do you find it to be so few people?

I've suggested Agnostics.com to Atheist friends and they refer to it as a dating site and aren't interested. It isn't to me. It's discussion and information.

I came across the site because someone in a polyamory Facebook group said it was a dating site that was open to poly. But I quit thinking of it as a dating site long ago and just see it as social media for various nontheists

At least half my acquaintance are non-religious, but none of them has declared themselves to be atheists or agnostics as far as I know. It’s not that they are afraid of repercussions. The average person is not very interested in religious questions. The average person is only mildly interested in academics of any sort, and they view pronouncements of any kind of “ism” as expressions of ego. They are more interested in sports, and don’t feel qualified to make grand pronouncements about reality. They simply don’t know and haven’t given such questions much thought.

Only a few people have bothered themselves with analyzing religious questions, and even fewer have the brass to make a public declaration of their grand findings.

I thought that this site was just for the cool kids

Unfortunately, Atheists are one of the few groups who are deemed throughly unelectable in the US. Unless someone wants to permanently ruin any potential political career, they ought best to pretend and deny any association with atheists, on account of over half the country would be unwilling to vote for someone on grounds they were atheist or agnostic.

Having been an agnostic since 1959, I really don't give a sheeeit who knows. I like living an authentic life. I am who I am. Once I recovered from my childhood religious conditioning, there ain't no way I'm going back into that dark hole. As far as being "outed," I love wearing my Agnostic.com tee shirt. So far, nobody has mentioned it. I imagine most of the unfortunate indoctrinated people don't even know the meaning of the word.

I've wondered that myself a little. The posts that get the most attention seem to be man/woman or social/political. In spite of the anti(? ) religion name, I've noticed that an awful lot of people treat this as a social site. Frankly I'm ok with that -- I enjoy living vicariously through their posts. Ha, ha.

I am a 'strong' atheist but I've never been much for proselytizing. I'll tell people my views if it comes up but I most often lurk and use the 'react' buttons rather than commenting (obviously I do speak up sometimes. Lol). I admit that I don't tell a lot of people about the site -- mostly I just don't have many people too be in a position to tell about any site. Lol.

Dunno. I'm not in a health position to date so like to read the more intelligent posts, skipping religious comments.

At first I protested, advising newbies to skip the religion rants, since they're preaching to the choir, but it made little difference, so now I just move on to another post if religion is mentioned.

I didn't realize it was a dating site at first I just wanted contact with the secular world . There were several athiest sites on G+ where I went they weren't as good as this site .

Just show them how and they will find us.

Looking at the site stats, just over 100k members have signed up for the site since it was created in late 2017. I think it was pretty typical for it to have 450+ people logged on at any given tike. The site was advertised as a dating site and i think quite a few people joined with very specific interests in that area- but there werent enough members to make it work. People left because of that, plus there was lots of in fighting snd cliques. As far as i know, theres been no new advertising for the site, and theres less than half as many members logged on at a time.

Most don't discuss especially those in the bible belt where prejudice abounds, it can have real world consequences

Many probably find it by accident, like I did!

My father was an atheist. I don't have to wear on my sleeve though.

1. it's not the important. It's not something I base my life on.
2. I don't want hurt others fellings
3. I don't like their religious arrogance any more than atheistic arrogance.
4. There is no 4. and mostly 2 and 3 don't matter either because it's not that important.

Hide behind a avatar & screen handle & use a VPN to hide your IP. Hopefully nobody will find out who you are

I'm not sure where I found the site, it may have been an add in the FFRF paper or Scientific American. Personally I'm just here for community and a gauge of others POV on the posts of the day.

i have no way to compare, but as for being outed, if the people they're afraid to be outed TO don't come here, how would they know, and why would they come here? so being here isn't really being outed.
