In the city where you live, how an atheist person is looked upon or considered in general?
Even though I live in the bible belt, and even though nearly everybody I know in Louisiana is a believer -- even my friends -- I've never had anybody here shun me or outright proselytize to me. What they say about me behind my back is another story.
My neighbor was once telling me a "story" she thought was funny. She was telling a new neighbor about all the other neighbors. "Yeah, you'll never see Blue Wave because she's always working, is never home, and parks in her garage, but she's great even though she is an atheist." She was cracking up. I wasn't. But, she is not self-aware enough for me to bother saying anything.
Where I live there seems to be more Tattoo Parlors than churches!!!
In the middle of Texas!!!
I am selective on who I talk with in topics of nonbelievers and Religion. Even being an agnostic I have lost in business deals a few times. On a personal bases I am always open especially now with my last few christain girlfriends dumping me because I can't be saved. Can only imagine for an atheist.
I live in Smithfield, VA, and even the Satanists look askance upon us!
Right ? I am next door at Virginia Beach , where the xstian sub moms praise Jesus 3 x a day . Atheists like me we are not welcomed and to be feared . To witch I say ," damn right " I ll eat your babies .
i have no idea. i live in a big metropolitan area, not huge, but big, and i encounter all kinds of people. some people say "oh, me too" and others say "but then who do you pray to?" and yet others say "atheism is a religion, you know," and some say nothing at all. i cannot characterize my area so readily. most people i meet don't start talking about religion spontaneously, and when i go to the supermarket i don't say "can i use my ebt card? by the way there are no gods. so how much is that?"

More or less in my town no one gives a toss
Same here
I live in South Georgia (USA). I am agnostic but my wife is a Christian. I attend church with her regularly. I switched about 3-4 years ago to agnostic mostly do to Science and listening to the Four Horsemen. Her family has birthday celebrations about once a month and while saying the blessing the prayer will include "help those that don't believe". The members know who is being condescended to. I never speak about anything in church because they don't want to hear it. In our previous church I talked to the Sunday school teacher and the pastor a lot and they knew how I felt. We would discuss the issues. I don't discuss with the new preacher because if word got out much I think the congregation would ask me to stop attending. I once told a friend that I had become agnostic, and he said for me not to tell anyone. Hahahah. It's not easy down here.
My vote as "Disagreeable People" is a guess based on what I understand the way religious people - especially in the Bible Belt - consider atheists, and judging from the number of churches (particularly Baptist churches) exist in my neighborhood. I don't have any personal experiences to draw on.
In the city I live in, atheists are just regular people living their lives like everyone else.
Where I grew up in southern Oregon, I feel like a lot of people actually are atheists, but as long as they don't openly identify as such, they are free to go about their lives. A lot of people don't believe in god(s), but the population confuses atheism for a separate ideology, it's percieved like a competing/evil religion.
