So I've recently been looking at the Bible again, and I found a lot of things that contradict, and a lot of things that break laws of physics.

Like if God is all knowing (as said in the Bible) why would he keep the tree of knowledge in Eden?

Or what about in Genesis, God creating all animals as they are today, but both fossil records and evolution disprove that.

Things like this show that the Bible might have been written by people or may have originally been a story spread by word of mouth by people who didn't know any better.

The Bible, which is a collection of different books written at different times by different people, is full of contractions.

[atheists.org]

Read the article but it was a bit short on the sum total of bible contradictions.
My last intense count came out 3,000+ contradictions, not to mention ALL the errors inlude Chronological, Geographical, Geoloical ,etc, etc.

You might enjoy reading "Who Wrote The Bible" by Richard E. Friedman and "101 Myths of the Bible" by Gary Greenberg. These are two of the first books I read when I first began questioning my beliefs.

Rest assured that the bible was written by people. So were all of the other so called "holy books."

After it was proclaimed as a recognised religion in the Roman Empire by Emperor Constantine, he then called for and assembled the first Council of Nicaea to decide and determine exactly what WAS to Written in the bible including both the Old and the New Testaments plus should contain copious references, etc, to a Divine Messenger/Saviour based upon a melding of Hermes, Mercury and Horus, hence they CREATED the Jesus myth.

I think many stories in teh bible originated as stories around the campfire. (Entertainment before television and before writing).

Most stories were "borrowed" from other or previous religions. For instance Hell and the war in heaven was a Zoroastrian story originally. The Zoroastrians conquered the jews way back when, and so their theologies got a little intertwined.

The story of the great flood (Noah and the Ark), is hte fourth known incarnation of the story.

The story of th star and the three wise men were stories that personified astrological events that happened around Dec. 25th each year. It was tacked onto the birth of Jesus plagiarizing and slightly changing a previous story that was common at the time.

I theorize that the orifinal story of Jesus was more liek a Greek tragedy. A miracle worker (something which was not uncommon at the time) convinced himself he was the Jewish messiah and ended up beign crucified. The end. Not too different from the book of Mark, which was the first "gospel" written which was included in the bible anyway. (There were actually more than three dozen gospels, but they contradicted each other and did nto tell a consistent narrative. Anyway, my theory is that the first story was written and was popular and theren there were manyh imitators trying to "cash in" (either in money or status) on a popular story. Somethign similar happened when Cervantes wrote "Don Quixote" Anyway, in the case of the bible, the imitator incorporated famliar bits of other stories, and added in familiar miracles from other stories. That is my theory anyway.

The contradictions in the the Bible and other unbelievable and unprovable stuff is another reason I left the dark side nearly 2 years ago. I wish I would have done it earlier in life.

My question is, WTH are you looking at the babble????!!!!!!!

I've called it the Wholly Babble for years but recently someone sent me the accompanying picture. 😊

@RichCC I like "buybull"

Shouldn't it be the Holey Babble as it's theories are full of holes?

3

" Found a lot of things that contradict" have you?
I've studied the bible, aka The Goat-Herders Guide to the Galaxy, and I've actually found well over 1,800+ contradictions in it thus far, but Good job anyway my friend, keep reading it BUT never, for even a mini-second, believe a word in it, it IS all pure, unadulterated, unmitigated RUBBISH to say the very least.

Ancient man believed that there was water up in the sky held back by a canopy or cover over the earth.
Genesis 1:7
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

Job 37:18
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

The sun, moon, and stars were believed to be like Christmas lights attached to the firmament cover over the earth.

Genesis 1:14
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Since ancient man believed this myth about the sky, Jesus believed it also. He had an inferior knowledge of science. So it seemed logical for Jesus that the sun and moon lights could be turned off, and the Christmas light stars stuck in the firmament could be loosened and fall to the earth.

Matthew 24:29 [Jesus said] “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give it’s light, , AND THE STARS WILL FALL FROM THE SKY, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

I imagine the authors had to explain rain?😂

Ok, ok, OK!!! Stop! I already threw up three times!!

That talking snake, fucked everything up for us, over eating a healthy apple. Then Christ came along, got nailed to a cross, to save all of us.

I prefer the happy face of Bob Marley T shirt , it's far less suffering.
Who are you to judge the life I live?

3

Oh you have lots of doosies to come, such as bats are birds, insects have four legs, unicorns, talking donkies and leviathan.
That's all before you get out of the first half of the bible and start on with the zombie carpenter

Who apparently disappeared for thirty years???

Especially when a typical male lifespan in those times rarely reached thirty years of age!!!

There is no practical use in reading the bible unless you have a couple of concordances, a Greek and a Hebrew inter linear copy and the ability to employ critical thinking.

You then need to have access to Bronze Age, Middle Eastern history, Persian and Mesopotamian religion, along with an understanding of the Roman world in the time of the early empire.

Recognising the importance of biblical prophets as political animates and not soothsayers or fortune tellers is important.

Finally, approach with an open mind, attempting to frame what you read away from Christian or Judaic doctrine.

actually one can just read the stories for their own sakes, as stories, without any of that. not everyone who reads the bible is studying it.

g

@genessa I agree totally if it is for entertainment but if one is wanting to make an informed statement it can’t be done in isolation.

@Geoffrey51 that is true to an extent, but when my guy, who believes rather vaguely and if pressed defines his god as a god who "invented evolution," needs a reality check, i just say "talking snake" and even without an historical context that seems to shut him up.

g

@genessa sounds like a plan.

I have never read the Bible nor do I intend, at this late age, to read the Bible.
The only thing I know about Genesis came from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. 🙂

One of my treasures is a copy of Genesis as illustrated by R Crumb.

....So I've recently been looking at the Bible again...

Ah.... why?

Because he's free to do as he pleases, explore anything that he feels needs exploring. Because there are no rules.

@david75090

ah, sort of a mind "thang" like LSD.

@moosepucky More like a free will thing.

To play 'gods' advocate. My client states that the laws of physics are his laws, and obey him, not the other way around.
He should like remind the court that if wants a tree, he will have a tree of whatever type and purpose and will place it where he desires.
The bible was written by people, and hence, mistakes have been made. If the words of my client were heard by humans, they would explode.
My client would also like to enlighten the court that he is a very busy deity and he has many billions of other worlds and lifeforms to interfere with all at the same time. Have you any idea of how many lives end every second? It's massive! And they all want to sit next to him and have a chat, meet Jesus, Mohummed and all the others. Then there's all of his judgments about not just peoples lives, but every tiny virus to the greatest blue whale as well.
Being omnipotent and omnipresent isn't easy. Is the court aware of what it is like to exist throughout all of time and space simultaneously? Well of course not, he didn't make the courts brains able to do that!
God states he isn't responsible for typographical errors like making everything in six days. Days didn't exist then! And as for resting, impossible, someone has to keep the lights on. Forgetting where he put an asteroid then skiving off for a day could wipe out almost all life on a planet!
God should also like it entered into record, that he isn't a he, she or them, but just is, and is everything including what you puny minded humans call time and space.
God closes with if god doesn't like it, god will wipe it out and start again.... again.

Shit Mate, ever thought of becoming a Criminal Lawyer, you'd get Jack the Ripper off a Murder Charge with consummate ease there.
Love the whole 'Defence Argument' bit, well thought through, well written and well presented, kudos to you my friend, immeasurable kudos to you.

My client states that the laws of physics are his laws--"Objection-Do you have the patents to claim proprietary rights?"

He should like remind the court that if wants a tree, he will have a tree of whatever type and purpose and will place it where he desires.--"Objection--Assume facts not in evidence, that the claimant is a god that creates trees"

If the words of my client were heard by humans, they would explode.--"Objection-Assumes facts not in evidences and implies a threat to the court, ie "YOU can't handle the Truth!"

My client would also like to enlighten the court that he is a very busy deity --"The couirt always strives to be speedy as the law demands, the clients personal work concerns are not of merit."

Being omnipotent and omnipresent isn't easy--"Objection--Assumes facts not in evidence, that the client is a Diety which contradicts itself by being BOTH when the second limits the first, it cannot ever get away from anywhere, mking it lack the power to not be present.'

he isn't responsible for typographical errors--"Objection--If the courtis to allow the former "omnipotent and omnipresent" then it follows that responsibility is inherent as the Client was both present and able to make it otherwise. The client proves our neglect count itself."

also like it entered into record, that he isn't a he, she or them, but just is--"Objection, that is a non definition. "Just Is" what exactly?

AND it is followed by a threat "if god doesn't like it, god will wipe it out and start again"
AND a confession to Genocide--"... again"

Your Honor, the prosecution thinks the defense needs a new Barrister, the current one is letting the client hang itself, and the client has rights as well.

@Triphid I had to build a case for Hitler's defence about year ago as part of my degree course - that's Social Sciences not law. An interesting mind excercise in arguing a perspective which is against your life viewpoint.. Surprising how little definable direct evidence there is against him. Still guilty as head of state though, glad I didn't get him off!
At work I have to go to church about every other week. It's one of those American style evangelical ones. I like to put the beliefs on trial in my head as the preachers preach, and the band plays country and western hymns. Funny, it confirms my athiesm as I glimpse the attending parishners arsing around on their mobile phones, and the ladies wesring their fuck-me boots etc.
I do use hearing protection, just in case I'm wrong - wouldn't want to turn into a pillar of salt of burst into flames!

@Triphid, @Davesnothere I look forward to continuing this when I have some extra time. Thank you for the response, very much enjoyed.

@Sofabeast Just my wise ass off the cuff response

Counselor, I believe your client has again missed his medication. Please restrain your client or I will ask the bailiff to remove him from this court!

Very well done and written, I applaud your efforts.

If God hates foreskins soo much,,, why didn't he just design the penis without it?

it is not that god hated foreskins. It's that his people were set aside from those that had foreskins because a foreskin was considered not clean. Lots of idiots still believe that today.

@DenoPenno Reality check, it made ancient world covert ops into Judea a nightmare. If they did not think you were of them, they just looked.

@altschmerz I didnt notice any appologies but heres a song about appologies.

So, according to 'bible scholars,' this god created this planet AND everything on approx. 6,500 years ago, correct?
Then how, exactly, does that 'claim' stand up against such things as, A) the fossil records that show CLEARLY that there NEVER have been found even the slightest TRACE of human bones in the same rock sediment layers as the Dinosaurs AND the fossilized remains of the earliest mammals from the Cretaceous Period, AFTER the Dinosaurs became extinct, and, B) last but by no means least, against the accuracy of the Scientifically proven methods of both C14 isotope dating and the more recent ones being used and well proven in accuracy as well?

@Triphid as to A) my understanding of biblical creation is that "mankind" was last created and from dirt. What is dirt a generic word for? Mixture of the atoms and compounds that are on Earth.

As to biblical text, logos (John 1:1) In the beginning was the logos, logos was with God and was God.

God is Logos, then, John 1;14 ... logos become flesh(a person). John 10:34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are "gods"'?

The law of then says, people are Gods. To think, to logos, to do cognative activities is the HIGHEST of any ability. What would any ability be with out the thinking ability or logos with it?

Watch video if you want, I am not posting for prosilation of any dogma, but it has information about DNA being information of intelligence start at 6 minutes 30 seconds.

Evolution Would explain what? It only takes 1 reproducing single cell organism made from the elements of dirt to populate the Earth changing and diversifying as it continues to chemically react.

What is out logos predicated on? Chemical reactions and brain waves?

As to the time difference of creation and evolution versions I perpose as a possibility that a cognative ability was going at time dilation speed and then that cognitive ability speed merged with the apparent evolutionary speed to give a report of the appearance of a fast creation.

Gravitational time dilation is a physics concept about changes in the passage of time, caused by general relativity. A clock in outer space moves more quickly than a clock on Earth. Heavy things like planets create a gravitational field that slows down time nearby. This means that a clock on a spaceship far away from any planet would move faster than a clock near Earth.

As to you B) not saying I have a quick answer nor thought out any further but J have thought of this one before. IF something is by truely a means of being supernatural, would that supernatural capabilities include the super ability to plan C14 isotope in ways that could appear 'scientifically " older? That's just a thought.

@Triphid my ideal of logic is that you cannot use natural to Disprove supernatural. Could there be different types of omnipotence?

Types/Levels of Omnipotence
Nigh-Omnipotence is the same, except the user has one or more limits/competitors. ...
Cyberpotence is omnipotence that only applies within a virtual reality. ...
Metapotence is omnipotence that totally disobeys logic. ...
Ultipotence just means infinite power, but without infinite knowledge, wisdom, etc.

@Triphid Let's not forget that the bronze age empires were at the height of their power, including egypt.

Egypt paid professional workers to build the pyramids. Also, Egypt had no need for Jewish slaves because they had an abundance of Nubian slaves.

6.3k years ago, cuneiform was in widespread use, same for Egyptian hieroglyphs.

6.1k years ago was when the first dynasties in Egypt formed, as well as the first Greek city states.`

The world was fucking ancient by the time of Able and Cane, the first few humans in the bible. Hell, the city of Jericho, as well as Netufian civilization is older.

@Triphid, @Word

And your proof is based off of babbles, yanking around word play and a book with questionable origins.

Yeah..... You're overthinking this buddy that's why we consider it b*** okay it's not real it's made up it it's a fiction written by people long time ago

Check out “The Bible Unearthed” for comments on these points. The assertion is that the early OT text was commissioned by Josiah as an excuse to conquer the northern kingdom.
