I think we need some sort of atheist church everywhere. The problem is that getting atheists together is a lot like herding cats.

Define church?

Atheists/Agnostics/Freethinkers tend NOT to be joiners. I have a book club as part of my Humanists group that meets on Sundays at 12:30 a restaurant. We call it our "church." It fills some of the functions of church for us. But church per se, and meeting sunday mornings early, oh hell no. We aren't going to play that game.

What do you suppose Atheists and Agnostics would actually do when they went to this Church?

Find and empty field, and there you are. Even better, bring a keg and cups and call all your athiest friends to join you at "atheist church".

The church of nothing to believe in and a group of people that do not follow anything for people that are basically against churches. Brilliant idea.

The bar, club, dance hall when I was growing up in church is what was always told to me as the meeting place for them "ungodly" sinners.

Are they going to have a choir? And a big organ? Then, i'm there. Nothing better than live music in an inspiring space.

Humans crave fellowship. We have local groups here. And we have non-denominational services at some of the church buildings. All about getting together with friends.

We could use such churches everywhere. For me, the UU church, which welcomes atheists and agnostics, was a great transition from religion to secularism. It has all the good things about churches (fellowship, music & singing, opportunities to improve oneself and participate in charities, etc.) without all the mythology and superstition that go with most churches. If there were a UU congregation in my town, I'd still be active in it.
