What can be done about the inactive members problem on this site? There's over 100,000 registered users and there's, maybe, 1000 of them who actually post. What's the problem here? What accounts for only 1% - 2% of registered users actively participating on the site?

As bad as the Christian forums are with their heavy-handed moderation, in the time I spent there, I was impressed by the amount of activity there was. Their users are very active.. The site is constantly being posted to with replies and discussions ongoing.

So what's the problem here and what's the solution?

isn't that every members right? why does it matter?

I am sometimes very active and at others I am busy with other projects such as my YouTube channel. I like the fact thst I can check in briefly when I am busy, in these times I may view but do not post or respond. I don't want to be booted from this community due to other obligations.

I just have a need to post in my own groups.
Maybe others do the same.

I am one of those who rarely posts (sorry), I read about once a week, look at newer posts in my groups, but so much of what comes up now, I have seen many times before to I don't post my response again, not sure of the solution, or if there is a problem. I really joined in the hope of meeting someone, but the site became more chat and info, too few people in my area I guess, but in the real world, I find probs with women and religion, some of the cutest ladies are god botherers.

Members who have been inactive for more than a year could be deleted. ... But it's not for us to say or do.

If only this app works like an app and not à web browser

Works well for me.

Bearing in mind that this is advertised as a dating site , a lot of folks may be disappointed in learning that there are very few living near them . Even here in Houston , which is a large metropolitan area , where the numbers are greater . the members don't seem to be very active . From my point of view , considering this is theoretically an adult site , a good bit of the jokes seem childish to me , mainly about shit , boogers , urin , etc . Rather low level of maturity . Additionally , considering this is an Agnostic site , there seems to be a great deal of talk about religion . I thought we were past that . I do enjoy the science posts , and the relationship posts , and of course the investment posts . although I seem to be the one doing most of the posting there .

I mentioned below that maybe ut would be better to promote this as a site to make new friends globally rather than to look for dates. I don't really see this as a dating site either.

I h Zaza i have never seen it advertised as a dating site.....

Aside from wonky member numbers, what exactly is the problem?

Tidy databases are nice, but not the norm.

So what if there are a lot of dormant accounts? Does anyone here (besides me) have any experience with Information Systems?

I came here from another site and have since then found others here who also come from that site. This site and the other one have lots of members who joined but continue to say nothing or not post anything. I find this to be normal. People move about because they want to get away from the same old posts. Others join and do nothing. This is much like having a Baptist friend who belongs to your baptist Church but he never goes there anymore and doesn't want to hear sermons. I get it. He just wants to belong.

When I look back at the last time I was involved in a church I recall a man there who was pointing out that you have to be a productive member of society. His example was that even bees will kill a non-productive bee member. WTF was he trying to say? This sounds a little extreme.

I want to be clearly understood, I do not advocate the killing of inactive members. That response seems sooo...biblival in its extremism.

I post little of direct issues with religion, other than my continued "crying wolf" about the spread of the islam-darkness, i enjoy the various groups for the random fun, and science bits, i learn from.

The politics of the EU are a warning about what is coming here. We already are surrounded by idiocy and primitives. Hence our need to be aware of all that.

My weekly summary indicates this site now has 30,000,000 members. No wonder there are so many idiotic posts.

I find the notification system underwhelming and the UI over complex.

I try to come back regularly and engage but my phone gets no notifications of a response.

And navigating to find or create groups is meh at best tedious at its worst.

Seems at the moment Facebook provides a better serious for group discourse than agnostics.com currently does.

That being said I don't know what the gap usually is for a site but I suspect there's always a large gap between active users and registered ones.

It would be fun to know the real members.

Lurkers keep their accounts active by logging in so a cull wouldn't harm them.

Maybe I should post a challenge to the lurkers. Try to draw them out.

@Sgt_Spanky There are definitely some members who just come in - look around - and leave again. No comments - no posts - and no leaving likes.

Perhaps they use social media more like a library and browse? But they miss out on the interaction part.

Good luck if you find a way to encourage them!

I'm not sure if everyone thinks the same but I feel like I shouldn't complain about life or my struggles because in a website like this its about elaborating. I'm pretty sure I won't be receiving blessing here or a magical holy miracle. Its way easier for christians to talk about their personal issues. I do feel that it should be encouraged and somewhat praised where people can feel that when they surpassed an obstacle or life event, where the community can like and be happy for a stranger. I do feel part of this community but it comes with all types of feed back. I have to be detailed when I post because people want perfect grammar and I be LAZY. Especially since W.E i don't always want to spend so much time on a post.

I am proud to say hopefully I am a member of the 1%. As long as you're a member of the 1% yourself, it really doesn't matter

We have the same problem with our Atheist Meetup in Syracuse.

The puroise of this thread was to try and identify what some problem areas might be, That info might then have been useful to others with the same issue. Problem is, a lot of people are just being assholes. That identifies at least one issue.

I know about a few. I posted an anti 4oceans rant and it appears if you Google 4oceans scam. Some come to whine and few ever stay. I tell them I won't debate them unless they hang around to a 5.
