What can be done about the inactive members problem on this site? There's over 100,000 registered users and there's, maybe, 1000 of them who actually post. What's the problem here? What accounts for only 1% - 2% of registered users actively participating on the site?

As bad as the Christian forums are with their heavy-handed moderation, in the time I spent there, I was impressed by the amount of activity there was. Their users are very active.. The site is constantly being posted to with replies and discussions ongoing.

So what's the problem here and what's the solution?

Not everyone is a writer.

Some are lurkers and just watch

@ADKSparky 99% of registered users?

It is possible their primary reason for joining was to use this as a dating site ,and found there are married members like me and others who had no intention of joining for this purpose

THe dating thing keeps coming up over and over. There might be something there.

I don’t see it as a big problem that there is a large number of inactive members still registered. Some come and go and post intermittently, not everyone posts constantly because they have lives to live offsite. I have no experience with any other sites, Christian or otherwise, therefore I have nothing to compare this one with, however I find that when I do log on here there are usually quite a number of alerts to respond to and plenty of new posts to browse, enough for me anyway! Perhaps my expectations are lower than yours, and certainly I’m not here for dating, that wouldn’t have been a fruitful exercise living thousands of miles away on the other side of the Atlantic from the majority of fellow members. In short..I see no problem and therefore I see no need to find a solution.

once the level of disbelief is reached it is difficult to see the angst of those still rehashing the issue.... I came here for a different atmosphere but find many are still grousing about that which we say is behind us... I am often thinking about whether I should hang around much longer....trying to get myself to T-shirt level....

IMO.

Disregarding many of the comments which have been made about you bitching unnecessarily, I agree with you. It does seem like Agnostic.com misses out on a large part of the market they could capture and hold.

I suspect humanist. com and agnostic.com would do better if they didn't spearhead these sites as dating sites. It seems like many people here came here for dating, but end up leaving because there are not enough matches within there proximity. This website is unable to retain it's market share likely because of this.

If I were King for the day I would change these two sites dramatically. The reason for this is because the success of these sites can have an adverse, and positive, affect on the strengthening of an atheist movement.

I would still maintain the sites' dating features, but they would get a backseat. These sites would be all about community.

For example; the home page would have regularly changed news articles pertaining to the secular world.

Also on the home page there would be links to articles and memes with the most likes from the previous month.

Also, every month put the pictures of members who received there free T shirt for reaching level 8.

What could be done to promote this site without making major changes to it's coding is an unending supply of creative solutions. So in my opinion, it comes down to admin. If you want to make this site reach its potential and make a difference in this world, then you have to have admin recognize they are wasting an opportunity and they are responsible for this site's market share. They are the owners of this site's successes and its current failure in market share and retention.

"The Market"???? What are we, food truck operators? Fuller Brush salespeople? You want to be Admin? I betcha they are getting burned out, be careful what you wish for?

There's no problem, here. You are not fit to demand something be done about our collective behavior. The solution to your personal crisis on the matter is to stop worrying about what other people should be doing.

New here. A bit about my philosophy. I am a humanist believing that every person is a god unto themselves as the guardians of this wonderful planet we inhabit. I am of the firm belief that we are supposed to care for all the other living and breathing things that exist with compassion and love. We as a race have immense capability and do no use the power we wield as we should and there should be more emphasis on unification around the world instead of this gosh awful segregation spread by so many people of power so they can usurp this earth out of greed from everyone and everything that does not have the power to rebel against it.

@Dyl1983 I feel that the only reason it is doomed, as you so eloquently put it, is because we have not taken our responsibility seriously. We, the human race is what is doomed if we do not do what we should. This earth will survive as it has for the last 4.5 billion years and we will simply be a blip in it's history unless we gather together as a race complete with no segregation, borders, countries etc. and to something about our irresponsibility in caring for our home.

@Dyl1983 We as a species may well be doomed. The planet however will remain for quite a long time.

@Dyl1983, @humanbeing2 Said it so much more eloquent than I😊

I don't see a problem and I think any solution would be a problem.

Every site has that problem, every local organization as well. "Meetup" actual participation is considered "excellent" at .02%, for example

@AnneWimsey And in another vein, I keep forgetting to tell you how much I like the new pic - it's great!

So their expectations are lowered to align with the site's activity. That's one solution but is it the best?

@Sgt_Spanky if ALL organizations, local or internet, have the same low "actual participation" rate, it is not a problem, it is the norm.

3

I am surprised that the percentage is that low, but it is fairly common, I believe for no more than 10%, often only 4-5% of members of n organization to "carry" it.

An increase of up to 4% - 5% would be great.

I imagine most of the Christian sites are self-congratulatory and the debates are around where Jesus bought his sandals.

Here we argue many points and ask posters to support their claims.

Some guys don’t like to be called out on their incorrect knowledge or deliberate nonsense.

Besides that many seem to join up to date. Don’t know how successful that part is but from some posts I’ve read, not the greatest.

3

It is what it is.... I don't know that I would call it a problem and I don't see any likely solution in the future. I think what happens with most of the inactive members is that they come here hoping for real dating options with other members in their local area, see that there aren't any, and then just leave the site for good, instead of staying, becoming active, and trying to enjoy the discussion and community available here. I don't see any of that changing with most of the people who try this site until the membership becomes large enough to offer local dating options for most members. And that is not going to happen without the site doing a lot more advertising on FB or other media, which would cost more than the site's owner could afford or at least be expected to spend for that.

Maybe it would help to promote the site as a place to make new friends around the world and less as a dating site. At least expectations can be brought more in line with reality. So far as FB promo goes, thatt can be done very inexpensively. The site could promote itself with boosted posts on FB for as little as $10 for 10 days. That will put it in front of several thousand eys for just $1 a day. I'm sure they can afford that. It's just a matter of crafting an effective ad.

got 2 eyes, 2 ears, and one mouth... more info should come in than go out.

2

for me its getting a bit stale and samey.

Love your profile pic. I think I will update mine.

I think what I will do is shave my ball sack. Then I will draw eyeballs on it. Then I will make a mouth shape out of my hand and position it under my new eyeballs. Then I will snap a selfy.

@Heathenman and you won't look any different

@LeighShelton

😂😂😂!

@Heathenman i just called you a dick head lol

@LeighShelton
That's okay you fat ugly old bastard, I take it all in stride.

@Heathenman well you obviously don't lol

thank you.

What conversations are you interested in? Provide some guidance, not just disappointment.

And: we all have to understand that there are millions walking in our direction. They are raw with withdrawal. They are lonely. They are hoping someone will confirm their thinkings.
I give solace as i have time. I am far more concerned about the current world war against reason and enlightenment. We are only at the beginning of these principles being enacted and defended. These ideas of freedom are still under major attack, with odds against their survival, given the number who benefit who are actively involved in their denial.
Islam is darkness. Nothing liberal about islam.

@Jacar Honestly its way too late

2

I scan through the pages on occasion, I am kind of busy with my life. Why do you want to regulate who can be on this page ?

That’s a great question... why does it matter if everyone is active at all times? This group should be an added benefit for people when they are wanting to converse with likeminded people, not another ball and gain to carry with us.

2

I suspect it's that relatively esoteric word "agnostic." People join, find out what it means, throw their hands over their heads and run screaming into the night, never to return.

The second factor is lurkers (the people who read, don't post/reply) make up about 95% of the people on social media. Generally speaking, people hate to write.

Third factor is sometimes I join relatively active groups that never send me an update. I have to browse groups to see the updates in them. The software upkeep is a tad flakey at times.

Lastly, as a dating app this place is filled with AARP members. That ought to make most guys looking for hot babes throw their hands over their heads and run screaming into the night, never to return. Great grandmothers looking for love and dam picky about it, well, need I draw a picture?

2

I would imagine the users are probably of a high education level on average, and probably comment as and when they have something useful to say, and that usually means interests them.I would say 1% usage is not to be unexpected under those conditions.
How do we increase it? Unless we produce thought provoking input..................we don't !

2

Just what we need, more rules. Not.

2

What can be done about inactive members? IDK. How are we measuring their inactivity? Do you have to post to be active?

2

I have one friend here. No one gives a care. Multiple posts and out reach messages. I'm not ugly or stupid. The solution? There is no solution.

Your profile reads like an ad to sell guitars. Maybe that's it?

Thank you for the heads up I changed it.

2

I think a lot of people just read the posting, and maybe join groups. I read and post. Have the same problem at AR, a lot of people read, but only a few post.

Why do anything

A lot of the problem is the rehashing of the same old shit. I get tired of seeing the same old drool being brought up again and again with the same results, as an example, I didn't realize how many versions of pascal wages there was, however, it's just the same old shit presented in a new package.
A lot of times I just roll my I eyes and move on. My take on it.

2

I would say that 1,000 active users is an understatement, for every person that posts there are a dozen more who just like to read the posts and occasionally react with a like or a smiley face. If the Crazy Christians have so much to say then perhaps it is because they are so thoroughly confused about everything in the first place. Letting Crazy Christians run amok on our site might stir things up but not in a good way, let them blather amongst themselves, I for one do not need to hear it.

I believe a representative community of believers would be good for the site rather than just an echo chamber of like-minded opinions.

@Sgt_Spanky Just hang around the house on Saturday mornings and eventually some believers will show up to give you some variety in your life. 🙂 I don't need to hear their delusional ramblings but feel free to wander over to one of their very active and inviting chat sites.

1

Why is it your problem. Or indeed any of your business? Maybe they fell in love, or are in the hospital, or just busy.....

Or maybe they're plotting revolution, or maybe they've fallen victim to sex slavers, or maybe they were torn apart by monkeys, or maybe they never really existed at all.

Just speculating.

@Sgt_Spanky those Flying Monkeys from Wizard of Oz? Scary as hell!
