I'm really getting tired of these insincere, accusatory questions. WTF don't you have Google in Australia?

Yeah we do, but sadly the 'odd' Faithfool slips through the cracks, kind of like the do elsewhere, including America.

No we live with the Kangaroos

As you say it is the "Holiday Season." You don't have to believe in Christianity, god or Jesus to celebrate a holiday, and to me Christmas is simply a secular holiday with various traditions associated with it - gifts, getting together with family, eating too much.....

Christmas, Easter and all the other "religious" holidays are just an excuse to spend money. I find the holidays a pretty big pain in the ass, truthfully.

Its a day off with pay, nothing more and nothing less, and a shit load of commercials on TV to bore you to death.
Religion has nothing to do with it. How everyone else views it is their business.

I think its tremendous in terms of generating good will. I do join in but I don't do the old church things!

It's that season of the shortest daylight in our hemisphere, when we light lights to remind the sun to wake up and do a proper job of work. Some of the lights are quite pretty, as well. We exchange gifts to mark the passing of another year and celebrate relationships. Every year is another rebirth. The birth of a child in the story is symbolic of the birth of a new year and the innocence with which we hope it will be better than the last.

Commercialism. Plain and simple. I bought presents for my family at a store that I would never otherwise enter because it's expected. I'm not cruel but I have to say, only two people I bought presents for are Christian The rest of them just like the fairy tale. Getting together for roast beast, which I don't eat being vegetarian. Giving each other cheap presents, etc
It's ok but mainly disappointing when it doesn't happen like the commercial says it should.

A few years back, the kids and I agreed to stop with gifts. Now it is about getting together to play games and watch movies.
Santa still gets us all one thing. Sometimes we make something for someone. But mostly it is just the togetherness. If we can't be together, that is okay too.
I gotta say, it is easier not just because I don't have to shop but because I don't have to open something and wonder, "What the hell were they thinking?"
This year I did get all three kids t-shirts. Each one says "I am mom's favorite." I hope they think it's funny. I'll make them wear them while we play Exploding Kittens.

I work in retail so come december 25 I am ready for a few drinks as over the next few days it will be mayhem. I deplore the waist of it the tons of tinsel and decorations that end up in land fill to be replaced the next year. I have friends who are pagans and one who is whitch lovely person as long as you don't annoy her. As i live on my own i will spend it quietly

Was this just a points gathering exercise Adrian ?. If so it was very successful

Haha its sure was

1

It fits in nicely as a year end culmination of all the rest of the delusions, that I do not wish to participate in.

Watch out for the flying reindeer.

Happy Solstice. I am ready for long sunny days.

Feats of Strength!

Трахни тебя, тролль.

I translated this not very nice .. This was a legitimate question

@AdrianDiadato3 Actually it was the nicer option, I was thinking perhaps it was a troll bot. Not thinking of a troll person. The manner of your question was antagonistic in tone. Sounding perhaps like a Christian poking around an non-religious forum for a response. If I was wrong, you are not a believer coming into a disbelieving group - then I apologize. Do tell?

@Observer-Effect I am just a curious Australian Agnostic looking to get some opinions and feedback from my more astute American Agnostic cousins who i could not connect with otherwise over the Giant oceans that seperate us .

its a period to meet family, friends and close a cycle, we need those rituals once in a while to give an energy boost

1

Why are you here? Can you think for yourself?

1

Same thing I think on St Valentines Day, St Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo,New Years Eve, Friends and party.

1

I feel there most likely was a Jesus. However, I do not believe he rose from the dead. He might actually have been married and had a child. It was so very long ago and word of mouth and even text will change from time to time.

I celebrate with a feeling of joy, and happiness for all things and all people. My family, and friends are what is important to me at this time of year. All the rest is just a title to the celebration of good spirits, and kindness.

1

who cares its a time to let the kids have something fun and personally I loved the decorating and its a pagan celebration nothing to do with Christ for me ever

1

It is a traditional holiday that I enjoy. It is based on "pagan" holidays that existed before Christ. I do not believe in the religious aspects bu it is a good time o reflect and appreciate human beings.

Love it. It's a bit like the Queen's Birthday. No one gives a fuck what it's for but we get a day off work.

0

The celebrations at this time of year predate the supposed birth of Jesus and originated from pagan and other religions and almost all of the Christmas traditions are nineteen and twentieth inventions.

So it's the 25th of December now in Sydney so Merry Christmas to Agnostic Brothers and Sisters !

I enjoy the 25th of December to hell with the 2 months before it .

"Christ" is/was a very late addition to the celebration of longer days.
