It is horrific. I live in the us. Has there been a real sustained effort to stop it? I have heard any news in that regard. Have they called out the military ? It seems like a national emergency if ever there was one.

Military called, fire service working flat out, etc. The problem is that there are so many different fires that it's beyond their capacity. The actual fires cover an area of around half the area of Europe.

@Bigwavedave To give an idea, the 2018 fires in California burned almost 2 million acres, and is the worst ever recorded in the USA.
The present bush fires in Australia have burned 12 million acres - 6 times that area!!

@Petter that is terribly sad. So sorry.

I have been watching the news and have come to the conclusion that the Australian prime minister Scott Morrison in this matter has been an arsemongle of Trumpian proportions

He has, indeed.
