Agnostics doubt whether there is a god, Atheists are adamant that there isn't. A more important question could be what comes after death. Socrates gave us three 50% possibilities: Nothing, A Long Sleep or a walk in the Underworld.
Christianity gave us Heaven but did it get that as so much else of its story from Isis, Osiris worship of Ancient Egypt. The Roman Catholic Church gave us Hell around 1200 AD. Useful for controlling people.
The Hindis gave us almost eternal transmigration of souls by continual rebirth. I find this concept terribly depressing as we do not ever retain learning from one life to the next.
Of course these are all merely ideas.
What I wonder is what people on this site believe/think/hope comes after death? I'll go with possibly all three of Socrates's 50% possibilities but add my own hope that we go on to a higher learning and likely that we realise that everything in our life before was illusion. My own theory is that infinities do not exist and that is a pretty good indication that everything we perceive is imaginary.

Death, by definition, is the end. Proof? Socrates has yet to give us the answer 😉

Well one of his three was that there could be nothing, next that it might be a long sleep and finally that it might mean walking in the Underworld chatting to people. Realising that these were concepts at the time Christianity was a long way forward with all their controlling ideas. So if death is followed by nothing then it is the end but not if it is followed by something. The trouble is that no-one has died for long enough and come back to give us a clear idea of what comes next. I'm assuming that people are familiar with Brian Weiss and his past life regression books. Entertaining stuff.

And with what do we contemplate this? If Socrates couldn't decide, in between running after young Greek boys, as Woody Allen once humorously put it, and no one is further advanced on it, despite claims of white lights and so on, I don't see how contemplation helps.

LIVE!! Just live and love and find whatever brings you joy, death pretty much takes care of itself.

Definitely! Though I discovered many years ago that the key to happiness is not happiness but contentment with whatever. One can be more content (joy) or less (being). Death does seem to be rather final.

I'll go with the guy who doesnt understand %'s for $1.50, Alex.

What I hope for in death is to never, ever hear the name of anyone that lived before 500 A.D. again. Thats my 100% heaven.

The 50% 's were mine. He merely stated that he was not afraid of the possibilities after death that people of his time considered. If you have a heaven then you believe in something after death. That was my question.

@rogerbenham Agnostics doubt whether there is a god, Atheists are adamant that there isn't.

Agnostics say it can neither be proven nor disproved, so a yes/no answer is impossible and live thier lives basically as athiests. Athiests say "nice claim, back it up with facts. Oh, you can't, nice made up fairytale" and live basically like agnostics.

I believe in life after death. For others, that is. No heaven, no hell, just a disimbursment of the matter and energy that used to be me.

@1of5
OK
Krishnamurti: I don't believe in anything. That's me. Hope is something else.

@rogerbenham made up word, school of thought or philosophers name, I don't care. Still gibberish.
